Avoiding smog is a priority for myself, so it would be probably be Chumphon or lower.  Happy where we are, North of Chumphon, but South of Hua Hin, and close enough to Bangkok, to visit daughter.

 

Only real considerations are, if you're a fan of P4P, then that limits your choices, on a convenience level.   Or if having a lot of western food options is a priority, especially if you don't cook at home.

 

You want metro, urban or rural living, no prob.  You want hills or surf, no prob.   TH has it all.

I'm here now, but leaving in 2 weeks for 2 1/2  month, and then, staying another 1 1/2 month. Coming back In October and probably staying to March or so. We will see, and all depending on work to. 

 

Wife just delivered her spouse visa today, and that will take another 15 months or so. 

 

Just back from your neighborhood down to Ranong and back, and it was great.

Typical Thai food is terrible. The only advantage is that it doesn’t lead to obesity (which isn’t surprising for such bland and extremely spicy food filled with lots of artificial additives). I always wonder what all those people who praise Thai food used to eat before. It is even scary to imagine.

We live 160m up a hill in Phuket, never use AC at all, only experience it in shops etc. We don't even use fans all the time, even then only on low as there's usually a bit of a breeze, even on the beach. Perfectly cool compared to Singapore. where I work.

Really not keen on Issan style food but other Thai food, properly cooked, there's nothing wrong with it, I find it very healthy. My wife grows pretty much all the herbs, chillis, pepper, vegetables and fruit she needs to cook in the garden. Nothing artificial, like any restaurant we frequent. We even have a lemon tree for the vodka tonics.. I have to say a lot of the cheaper roadside type places stick a load of crap in the food, like lots of sugar, MSG, etc, nasty.

Bamboo is rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals, and has zero calories. Pork rinds are crunchy and delicious, a good source of collagen. which helps maintain skin tone and cartilage.

 

Then there's pad siew gai, pad thai goong, mussuman curry, northern thai sausage. Roasted fish with garlic, Kai tod. Pad pat ruam.

 

I used to eat meat and three veg back in Australia, IMO Thai food has far more variety.

 

I'd say Thai food is healthier. In Oz, I was 93 kg, sometimes ballooned out to 100 kg. Now I am a svelte 79 kg.

There is a limit to how ethical one would want them to be if one was calling in a favour. One could not expect much assistance from a jobsworth "mr clean" if trying to get off from a serious charge.

I actually have many police in the family ranging from the wife's (useless) youngest brother who will forever be a constable, right through to her sister's husband who is currently a chief inspector.  

All appear to me to be normal guys just doing their job, but we have to understand, for all police  their hands are tied and they all have to answer to their superiors

Best to keep ones nose clean and / or not get caught, favours invariably need to be repaid

Don't forget many on here have no idea what Thai food is available to them, and are incapable of ordering anything other than khao pad.  Last year I met a guy who ate nothing but Pad Kra Pao moo for two weeks lol

If I find one, I'll get hitched. Otherwise, I will stay single. I'm a weirdo anyway, so I don't need to conform to societal norms. 

 

Getting hitched complicates life. Then the decisions all have to be consentual with the other person. You may end up in Isaan or moving back home even if you prefer to stay in Thailand. 

 

I was thinking of you when I saw a video today, and was looking for an earlier thread we both was engaged in, but could not find the specific post where you had a negative outlook on Norway and cold winters, and my picture in my head was totally different.

You are right about that, if you meet someone, your perspective and outlook on quality life might change. 

 

Always good to have the possibility to make corrections.

You can bash anything you want for me, I got my experience living many places, and I know what I enjoy, and not enjoy. So my decisions is rooted in experience and knownledge, not hope and dreams or illusions. 

 

And a good start, not being so negative to others experiences and choices. To many here have to constantly share their black view on everything

I doubt that. Most westerners like Green curry, Pad Thai, Massaman.

Been following the Youtuber Ramze Travels. He's been in Thailand 2 years and now he is getting bored and wants to move on. Either back to US or somewhere else. So everyone is different. Some people need constant change.

 

I was in a crappy job that I hated. And finally I got laid off. So the Gods are pushing my out of my comfort zone. 

 

I noticed that a lot of people back home who have had the same job for life have a kind of "arrested development". They haven't grown. Sometimes, life pushes some people out of their comfort zone and moving abroad is such a thing. And it isn't about finding paradise. It's just about expanding yourself a bit. Which people who visit the same few kilometres or miles their whole life don't seem to be doing. 

 

 

I don't understand boredom.  I can't even leave this place while I was vacationing. 

My first trip I met her.  Fell in love with Thailand right there.  We had Zero boredom.

 

The problem, if you can call it at that, was I had 2 other trips that time -- Philippines and Indonesia.   I had extended my stay in Thailand because of her then, hesitantly,  went to Philippines.  Then I saw someone who is just as equally beautiful as my Thai friend.    I thought it would take many years before I could find someone as beautiful as my Thai friend but shortly after, I found my Filipina friend, a farmer's daughter and herself I would say is a farmer too as she helps tend to it.  I was so blown away I had to again extend and sadly, cancel my Indonesia trip.

Just have to agree.  During my working days, I worked and lived in many countries, EU, Africa, Central AM and Asia.  I know what I like or don't like and how to survive in just about any different country.  I still love Thailand and have no plans of ever leaving.
