Ever see "The Princess Bride"?

“I do not think that word means what you think it means”  Inigo Montoya

The verb 'eschew' is usually used with a direct object, but can also be followed by a gerund (an ing noun).

You have to eschew something.

Like: It is wise to eschew the use of words you don't really understand

Ah, the classic Princess Bride line—nicely done, indeed! And you’re absolutely right.

"Eschew" does require a direct object; it’s all about avoiding or steering clear of something specific, and in this case, it’s as nonsensical as most of his posts.

So yes, it’s wise to eschew tossing around big words without knowing their meaning.

In this case, maybe they should eschew trying to sound intellectual—which, as we both know, is beyond their ken.

Most of the people on here are too young to have experienced what the word fascism means. Way too many sloppy, uneducated references being made to one person or another being 'fascist'.

Meanwhile, as of mid-day Thailand time, it begins to look like an easy win for Donald Trump in the current US general election.

You are from Australia and what you say matters not to anyone from the USA. You will do what you are told to do when you are told to do it.

Extraordinary comment. See a doctor....

Regardless of the outcome I feel confident, having read the many posts on here, that the winners will be gracious in victory and the losers will be dignified in defeat...........🤭

I care not who sups and beds at the White House; I care not for whatever wars that continue waging. My only care is that my portfolio of globally diversified investments keeps marching towards the moon - Blue house or Red house, makes no difference to me.

Let the animals destroy themselves.

And poof, go your investments. Remember who keeps your money safe

Pretty odd thing to say. If you were genuinely knowledgeable about investment, you would know that the outcome of this election matters greatly to your blah-blah portfolio.

Vote:  US has some of the most illogical electoral and government processes and systems.

The Senate and House Candidates should be voted on 6 months before the Presidential election.

Who controls the House and/or Senate will help in deciding what changes could be made.  The whole campaign on what they will do and what they can do without the house and Senate are different.

The out of date, archaic, burdensome, flawed, lobbyists, etc, is responsible for some of the long term problems we have today (National Debt, Social Security, Taxes, Amount of Foregn Aid, Military Spending)  enough to make a grown man Cry.

Do you want to pay higher taxes? Do you have any idea how much it costs to run a national election?

A salient feature of fascism is its demonization of minority groups. Immigrants, Haitians, Puerto Ricans, LGBT, etc. Just like Hitler demonized Jews and gypsies, "poisoning the blood of our country". History repeats itself.

Immigrants: you left out the key, game-changing word: ILLEGAL. Most Americans -- including Trump -- love immigrants (literally, in his case, and mine). Invading armies of migrants are not "immigrants".

Haitians: Trump actually said something like "the country of Haiti is a <deleted>hole". (Do you disagree?) That's quite different from "demonizing Haitians".

LGBT: don't confuse "hatred" and "not being at the top of the national agenda". They're emphatically not the same thing. I'm sure there are people who hate people in the LGBT community but Trump isn't one of them and neither are any of the MAGA people I know.

The tired Hitler trope is offensive. The only president that's ever thrown Americans in concentration camps was a racist Democrat. And today, it's the left that believes Republicans supporters need "re-education" (marxist dog-whistle for concentration camps).

Moral of the story: don't believe everything you read on MSNBC, NY Times, or Mother Jones.
