A Japanese influencer, also popular among South Korean netizens, died on October 31 after sustaining serious injuries in a motorcycle accident in Bangkok in September.

 

The younger brother of the 30 year old influencer, Satomi Yamanishi, better known as Satton, used her Instagram account last month to share news of the accident and Satton’s condition.

 

“She was in a motorcycle accident in Thailand and is unconscious. She will most likely remain this way for a while. I will halt all her activities, including Instagram, as it might be overwhelming for everyone who has supported her.”

 

On November 1, her brother provided an update with the tragic news, posting in both Japanese and Korean.

 

“I would like to share some sad news with everyone who has supported my sister. My sister Satton remained unconscious for about a month after a motorcycle accident last month. My family and I stayed by her side every day, caring for her as best as we could but she passed away peacefully at 6.06am on October 31.

 

“She made it this far because of your support. The messages of love and encouragement from everyone brought great strength and comfort to our family. On behalf of our family, I would like to thank everyone who supported Satton. We will inform you later about what will happen with this account.”

 

Satton, a South Korean language teacher, had lived in South Korea for eight years. She was popular among Japanese and South Korean TikTok users, creating videos to teach the South Korean language to her followers.

 

She had 260,000 followers on her Instagram account and over 240,000 followers on her TikTok account, @satton_korean101.

 

Today, November 7, the Thai-based news Facebook page, World Forum, reported that the motorcycle accident took place on September 6 in Bangkok.

 

However, her family has not disclosed further details regarding the accident. The incident involving a Japanese woman did not make headlines in Thai media outlets last month.

Foreigners best stay off motorcycles in Thailand... it just isn't worth the risk.

Sad. She was a teacher and had many people who followed her.
At least she seemed to be doing something for the people but I can’t stand when people promote themselves as influencers. There are so many “influencers” who expect everything free and will post negative comments if they don’t get what they want.

Especially in case of temporary visitors.

I have heard of quite a few tragic cases; tourists  in their 20s losing their limbs in the motorcycle accidents here.

Unfamiliar land, different road laws, and some reckless drivers/riders among the local population...

body held for ransom till all bills paid?  a whole month... a million or two ?
