Thais are supposedly peaceful people, but why not on the roads?
Of course they are... No Thai has ever shot their neighbour for being too loud.... That said, personally, I find Thai's remarkably patient on the roads, especially given the style of driving here and the monumental degrees of utter fukwittery that can unfold in front of us... I’m also grateful that incessant horn-blaring isn’t ingrained as a driving habit... (i.e. Indonesia - esp Jakarta) That said, to claim that in all other regions of Thailand the Thais are universally courteous and respectful is an oversimplification - a flawed generalisation at best - read and watch the Thai news and you would quickly recognise the craziness and zero-to-crazy trigger finger reactions on the roads and elsewhere without the assistance of foreigner influence in areas well outside of areas populated by westerners... I don’t disagree that Pattaya may be worse, as it undeniably seems to disproportionately attract a certain number of unhinged foreigners who seem to struggle with basic social behaviour. However, it also draws in a particular type of Thai who is equally predisposed to such conduct. In that sense, perhaps it’s the worst of both worlds - and that combination has coloured your outlook... ...and thus, trying to shoehorn in a dose of ‘foreigner-bashing’ rooted in prejudice against Pattaya Westerners feels like quite a stretch when I read it.... ... that said, this thread is also clearly a Thai-bash... Compliments to the Thai's for not being aggressive drivers in most cases, even more so given the craziness that can unfold on the roads. -

Mail delivery issues in Huai Yai?
I had a Christmas card posted in Oz arrive in July, and yet my UK Pension PoL certification made it in January. What you going to do? I got my Thai Mrs to go to complain or collect mail politely, something I am probably not too good at! I likely would make them decide to really mess with me! Haven't seen the kid delivering mail whiz up the road for a long time.... used to be a regular feature. -

Accident Indian Tourist Rescued After Nearly Drowning at a Pattaya Beach
Picture courtesy of Kaoded. An Indian tourist in his 30s or 40s was left in a critical condition after nearly drowning while swimming off a Pattaya Beach on the evening of 24 August. The incident occurred around 20:00, near a hotel access point on Kasetsin Road, Pratumnak Hill. Witnesses said the man, who has not yet been identified, had entered the sea but soon appeared to be in difficulty after suffering severe cramps. Beach chair attendants spotted the tourist struggling in the water and shouted for help from nearby beachgoers. Several bystanders rushed into the sea and managed to pull the man to shore. He was found unconscious with a weak pulse. Emergency rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon Foundation, together with an emergency medical team, performed CPR and administered first aid on the beach before transporting him to Pattaya City Hospital. Police officers attended the scene and recorded evidence. Initial investigations suggest the tourist was overcome by muscle cramps while swimming and was unable to keep himself afloat. Authorities said the swift response of nearby beachgoers likely saved the man’s life. He remains in hospital under close medical care. Adapted by Asean Now from Kaoded 2025-08-24
