snoop1130 Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Phuket Airport is experiencing a bustling high season, with passenger numbers soaring to 30,000 daily, complemented by over 300 flights taking off each day. This surge highlights the increasing demand for travel to this popular Thai holiday destination, as international tourism bounces back. Mr Monchai Tanod, the airport's director, notes that the airport's capacity for 600 flights daily ensures it can comfortably accommodate this surge. Despite not yet fully recovering Chinese traveller numbers, tourist inflow from Europe and Russia has substantially boosted figures, with passenger numbers predicted to hit 16 million by year-end. Anticipating further growth, particularly in international travel, the airport plans a significant extension of its international terminal. Set to enhance its capacity to 18 million passengers annually, this expansion is critical to managing congestion. Designs for the terminal are underway with construction targeted to commence post-2026. In an effort to further support Phuket's growing tourism and aviation needs, a feasibility study is underway for Andaman Airport, Phuket's proposed second airport. This ambitious project aims to ensure the region can sustain its status as a premier global tourist destination. With significant investments allocated, the future of Phuket as a travel hub looks immensely promising. File photo for reference only -- 2024-11-11
