Non-B expiring whilst out of country

Featured Replies

What happens in the scenario that you are out of the country and your non-b  (with multi-re-entry permit) expires / finishes as opposed to having it cancelled before leaving.

Done and dusted? Any complications for future applications or entries?

@Tod Daniels do you have advice for this OP..

Clear post from BritTim in this thread

https://aseannow.com/topic/1325451-cancelling-a-non-b-at-the-airport-on-the-way-out-or-back-in/

Thanks that thread is quite similar although a slightly different scenario.

For me I want to apply for and re-enter on a DTV after the non-b has fully expired.

Still helpful. Thank you

I will copy what I answered on the other post for you here;

Yes your extension may well expire whilst outside, and yes you can enter on a new DTV

BUT

If you do not cancel the Non-B extension before you go, expect a 20k fine when you next visit immigration for an extension.

You signed form STM2 acknowledging the terms.

A 20k fine for which extension do you mean?

The fine will be for not cancelling your previous extension

So by this rationale if someone was to leave Thailand on a non-b but forget to buy a re-entry and try to come back on any visa or exempt they too would get a 20k for forgetting the re-entry permit?

Based on this:

Yes, if they later needed an extension.

Is this fine official, ie does immigration give a receipt for it?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Yes, it is charged at the same rate as overstay, (but it is not an overstay charge), and yes you will receive a receipt, therefore allowing you to apply for a new extension.

Depends on how quickly you get back to Thailand in order to cancel your non-B extension.  The fine for failing to cancel is charged at 500 baht per day from the day you stopped working (which is actually the day your permission to stay ended, not the day your extension expired).

If you already capped out at the 20,000 baht after 40 days, then I wouldn't do anything.  Sometimes it can be overlooked and you won't hear about it again.  Better to wait until they fine you rather than volunteer to pay.

Also if you have a DTV you possibly won't ever need to go to immigration so they would never know they are supposed to fine you, just do border bounces instead of trying to do the extension we know nothing about yet.

So, if you are back soon after you stopped working, go cancel and pay the fine, but if you already maxxed out the fine, ignore it until they call you out.

Good point above, I forgot to mention that the fine is 500 baht a day, up to 20k
