If I spoke broken English like many Asian foreigners it would put them at ease. Being an Asian has never been a plus for me because I am who I am. Most Thai people don't understand who I am. Frankly I don't care what Thai people think about me. News alert: they don't care either. You're one of 40M these days. I can hardly make better sense of who you are and how that fits here better than you, but it sounds like you're overly sensitive and finding issues where only laziness or nescience lies. You may very well be internalizing some foreigner related issues which exist here with all of us. Starting to sound bitter. Try another country. Thais, certainly in 2025 despite the addiction to tourist dollars, taxes are exhausted of random farang weirdness. Asians are hardly an exception

It may not be so easy being another Asian in Thailand if you don't fit the mold. If you're a westerner then you're not expected to fit in. The Thais probably cut other Asians less slack.

This concept is something most Thai people do not understand. I have been going to a Chiang Mai Ram hospital for years. Everytime I go I am asked "you need translator". In the past I would say no. On my last visit I said "bring me a translator". The hospital employee then realized I was speaking fluent English and gave a half ass smile. Of course this is just my experience. Anyway TIT.

But there are also times where you can fly below the radar because you're Asian and you don't stand out as a foreigner, as long as you don't speak with them. So you probably can get some comfort there at least. But you won't usually get treated with kid gloves the way a westerner might, even with perfect spoken American English.

Many, many (attractive) Thai women avoid dating, partnering, marrying those not Thai. This guy has a ticket to dating far and wide over the typical farang. Yet, just complaints. He might not speak a lick of Thai, but his date avoids all judging Thai eyes merely by being Asian ethnicity.

I sometimes walk into a business and say little to nothing. Sometimes it has been postive and sometimes I have been profiled a as an a-hole Chinese guy. Can be a Catch 22. One of the ways some Americans would display their prejudice would be to ask me "Do you speak English?". Of course at the time I was in uniform because I spent 20 years as a police officer in LA. I never imagined I would experience something similar in the Land of Smiles. But it appears the Thai version is based upon ignorance and not malice.

You should see what my wife have to go through at some hotels. All I can say, arriving Lebua Chatrium or Hilton compare to some other hotels around Chao Praya river, and can mention Amara as one of the worst experiences, even I have given them her copy of her Id card while I check in, so basically, she just need to show her id card and they hand over the key. All that vindictive/destructive/harmful stuff they do after it's over, no idea either. And wanting to you harm you, harm their kids, harm themselves, completely inexplicable.

renaissanc Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 There's a lot to be said for marrying a woman who is a poor orphan working in a factory. I did that many years ago (in Thailand). She's so grateful every day. She's never been to school but she outshines me with all my degrees, works incredibly hard, and doesn't allow a Baht to be wasted.

It's a photo of my former bosses wife, I think she was about 25 at the time, and had already recorded the TV series, "Adventures of a call girl" with plenty of nudity, as was her appearance in "Penny Dreadful". About the only wife of someone I knew that I ever desired (which is why I use her as my avatar).
