Both parts must have or do something to maintain attraction in an relationship. Sad thing, very often both parts quit being interesting for each other after settled down, or do lot have time or make time for each other.

we're working too much.

and men and women both working long hours is bad for relationships.

being semi-retired is a good situation to be in. you have more time and energy to nurture.

good post. one of the more thoughtful posters.

i don't believe a lot of the nonsense other people post about relationships on here.

But we ain't using a gay fantasy figure as our avatars!

It was to honor you my dear Britman after your comment on overrated actor Jason being gay, and I heard to many times I look like him. 😁

Anyway, its either Bruce or Jason they seems to see, I see neither of them. Anyway I do not mind.

Nothing to do with ratings.

I'd say most of the guys marry in Thailand for convenience.

Less money in the bank required etc.

You'll find lots of guys here on a pension so it's all about the bottom line, affordability.

Marrying in any country should come with a warning.

I grew up in the USA. I do not like rice or noodles.  My ethnicity is Korean. I love Baseball, college football and hate KPOP. I speak some Korean. Bottom line is most Thai people are confused to as to who or what i am. When I speak English like a white foreigner it sometimes makes them feel uneasy. They look at me like somekind of weirdo that they have never encountered.  If  I spoke broken English like many Asian foreigners it would put them at ease. Being an Asian has never been a plus for me because I am who I am.  Most Thai people don't understand who I am. Frankly I don't care what Thai people think about me.

News alert: they don't care either. You're one of 40M these days.

I can hardly make better sense of who you are and how that fits here better than you, but it sounds like you're overly sensitive and finding issues where only laziness or nescience lies.

You may very well be internalizing some foreigner related issues which exist here with all of us.

Starting to sound bitter. Try another country.

Thais, certainly in 2025 despite the addiction to tourist dollars, taxes are exhausted of random farang weirdness. Asians are hardly an exception

I pay my MIL 3,000bht a month NOT to live with us.

If she comes to visit -100bht for every day here.

Result ....... not seen her for 2 years .... well worth the money ..... so much for close family bonds!

I don't really interact with her family or friends, they pass through but a wai from them and a wave back from me is about it. I don't let her mix with my pals either.

Mrs Jones and I lived together for five years before we went to get married in Bangkok.

A bit harsh bro. It may not be so easy being another Asian in Thailand if you don't fit the mold. If you're a westerner then you're not expected to fit in. The Thais probably cut other Asians less slack.

Wow. Thanks for the unsolicited judgement. I do not know what your experience has been like. I gave a small sample and you judge me as bitter and overlly sensitive. What else do you know about me?  Lastly I do no recall asking you to understand who or what I am. Also, LOS has not hit 40 Millioin this year.

I think you understand what it's like for an Asian who grew up in a westen country.  This concept is something most Thai people do not understand.  I have been going to a Chiang Mai Ram hospital for years.  Everytime I go I am asked "you need translator".  In the past I would say no.  On my last visit I said "bring me a translator".  The hospital employee then realized I was speaking fluent English and gave a half ass smile.  Of course this is just my experience.  Anyway TIT.

But there are also times where you can fly below the radar because you're Asian and you don't stand out as a foreigner, as long as you don't speak with them. So you probably can get some comfort there at least. But you won't usually get treated with kid gloves the way a westerner might, even with perfect spoken American English.
