Authorities in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya are investigating a tragic chain of events in which a 60-year-old man shot two women, critically injuring them, before taking his own life in a rice field hours later.

The incident began on the evening of November 23, when police from Phra Khao Police Station were alerted to a shooting along Wat Bang Pla Mo-Sena Road in Nam Tao Subdistrict, Bang Ban District. Emergency responders found two women, Mrs. Porntipha, 50, and Ms. Thanaporn, 33, lying injured by the roadside

Mrs. Porntipha sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her back, while Ms. Thanaporn was shot in the head, lips, torso, and legs. Both women were rushed to Sena Hospital in critical condition. A motorcycle belonging to the victims was found overturned nearby.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, Mr. Phairot, lured the women out for dinner. The victims rode together on a motorcycle, with Mrs. Porntipha driving and Ms. Thanaporn as a passenger, while Mr. Phairot followed them on his own motorcycle.

As they traveled down a remote stretch of road, Mr. Phairot reportedly opened fire, causing their motorcycle to crash. Police believe he then approached the fallen victims and fired additional shots but fled the scene after the women feigned death.

The attack is believed to have stemmed from Mr. Phairot's unreciprocated romantic feelings for Ms. Thanaporn. Following the death of his wife earlier this year. Mr. Phairot pursued Ms. Thanaporn and allegedly spent substantial sums of money on her. However, she repeatedly rejected his advances, which investigators believe fueled his anger and led to the premeditated attack.

The following morning, on November 24, at around 10:30, police found Mr. Phairot's motorcycle abandoned in a field approximately three kilometres from the crime scene. A coordinated search led to the discovery of his body at 15:00, just 100 metres away from the motorcycle.

Officials confirmed that Mr. Phairot had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. It is believed he succumbed to overwhelming stress following the attack.

At Phra Khao Police Station, authorities interviewed Ms. Kotchakorn, 42, Mr. Phairot's stepdaughter. She revealed that her mother, Mr. Phairot's wife, had passed away on March 29, 2024. Following her death, Mr. Phairot began pursuing Ms. Thanaporn and even introduced her publicly as his partner.

Ms. Kotchakorn added that Mr. Phairot had recently complained about financial struggles and expressed feelings of betrayal and humiliation. "He said he felt like he had lost everything and couldn't go on. I tried to calm him down, but this tragedy still happened," she said.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting and are monitoring the condition of the two victims, who remain in critical care.

Not exclusive to Thais, but they'd certainly be overrepresented in the data when it comes to killing people over very little..

More likely he planned to kill himself but decided to take the woman out as well.
