Please. America has the world's highest prison population. It has to train its schoolchildren in how to avoid getting shot. It has the world's highest cost pharmaceuticals.

Why on earth would anyone envy that?

As opposed to having Abo bashing parties?

Yes some people who have never left the USA seem to know all about the rest of the world.

I have always known i had more freedom where i was born then people who are living in the USA.

Looking forward to discussing this in a new topic.

Im waiting for it to start. Please, please please be from Western Europe.  Somebody send me a PM when you see it.

Actually it's not. But since you're not an American you wouldn't know. And is post didn't upset me, I just feel the need as an intelligent human being to correct blatant stupidity

Retired Americans of a certain age have" state" Health Care. Please tell us how the 50 million Americans who have health care are about to lose it, citing legislation that is active, co-sponsored and supported designed to remove Health Care coverage from covered Americans.

When they come to wish you a a happy birthday, Raise Your Glass and tell them that will be a lot happier if you could take a dump cuz being 91 means constipation. And ask them why there's not going to be a party in Nana Plaza for you. If God willing I make 91, I want a 21 year old stripper for my present and probably a quality dump too. Happy birthday in advance dude. Way to go.

Senakot is the answer to constipation.😄 A fairy (female) with a magic wand would be needed to move things in mysterious ways. Not a stripper. Seen one, seen them all. An afternoon in the Shamrock Bar Pattaya will do me, with my dwindling surviving friends. Quite a few have fallen by the wayside.

With all its faults, living in America also presents opportunities.  I left when I didn't like the political landscape, so to speak, but that was my decision. Others might disagree. That's OK.

Yes, opportunities knocks big time there.  If I stayed, I could easily be a USD multi millionaire.  RE was my game, so imagine 25 more years of RE investing with the way housing prices have risen.

Matter of fact, don't even have to be there, live there, to invest in RE, if knowing what you're doing.  I'm just too lazy to bother ... :cheesy:

well I have lived in many countries of the world and actually in my experience (possibly only me) but 5 countries in Europe, 9 Asian countries, 2 African countries, 1 central American country - and I spoke the languages well enough to mingle and chat with locals throughout the period of my stays (anywhere from 3 mos to 12 years) and every place, those locals actually told me that they envied the freedoms of the US of A and for the most part, the citizens too.  I listen to the expats here, also expats in Europe and the PI and many are exactly like some of those on this forum.  I am not proud of a lot of the changes in America today.  To me, the problems began with Vietnam and the media constantly bombarding the public with war pictures so that many became anti government but the real problem just spread IMHO with the younger generations, as many believed what they were being told about the world yet none of those younger folks cared much about that as they were hung up on "social media" and the wokeness being spread by the extemely polarized talk show folks tryiing to outdo each other.  Now, the country is literally flooded with illegal immigrants - many probably great people but some really bad ones too.  Illegal drugs plus even the legal being passed out by pharmas, spreads yearly and the govt can't seem to get a handle on that - probably because some get so rich off of the use of these drugs.  Elected seats are filled by those that the rich and powerful IMHO because those powerful people want to reap even greater profits every year.  If one doubts it just google "new billionaires during the COVID pandemic" and that will maybe change some mindsets.  But, believe me, most Americans really do appreciate the freedoms guaranteed by our US Constitution now well over 200 years old, with a few amendments along the way insuring all are treated equally.  Almost all of us today have ancestors from your same countries.  We appreciate those too and in many areas holidays and traditions are celebrated the same as I guess you do in your country.  On this forum, there are some really nice people who provide anyone and everyone with what might be helpful information and still others want to critize us for providing that information.  Some that used to provide help now are silenced by those critical comments.   All of this above is based on my living expriences for 78 years.  I have had friends from just about all of the countries in which I lived and worked.  I never critized any of their countries' citizens.  Until you live in the world of other people just remember that they are checking you out too and might think that all your fellow farangs are just like you or that you are just like those bad farangs being arrested for various reasons.  Just saying, and not criticizing anyone in particular and these are my honest opinions.  Good luck to all!

And for the rest of us still in our 50s or 60s, what advice would you give to help us get to where you are now?

A positive world view. Hold no animus grudges or regrets towards anyone or the past. Stay active and eat healthy. Self awareness and regard for others.

It’s probably not luck.

No. Hard work and self reliance inspired by the parents. The most rewarding lesson in life.

Presumably you’ve made some good or great calls along the way.

Just as anyone else on this planet, could have made worse choices and better choices.

Was moving to Thailand one of them? Did it change your life for the better—happiness, health, wealth, romance or maybe all four?

No. It’s the same no matter the location except the weather.

Partly so, certainly not a reason.

or maybe the healthcare that helps you sleep better at night?

Better health care in my home state and a non issue at this point and time.

Or is life in Thailand something completely different for you than any of the above?

Again, it’s all about world view and the ability to maintain a good functional social life. Mind over matter.

I'll be 91 next week, hopefully. Been here nearly forty years.

40 years here is the UFC equivalent of an amateur non-tranny female fighter taking on 40 fights with professional male fighters in the same night and KOing every single opponent.

I salute you, hero.

I won life's Lottery when I was born in American citizen. That means I have the freedom to choose my own path in life, and basically do whatever I want. Now I want to live in Cambodia and bang legal teenagers in Bangkok and smoke a lot of weed,, so that's what I do.

Jeez, you just won't give up crowing will you?

Do you seriously think that US is the only country where you have "the freedom to choose" your own "path in life".

Also, I challenge your assertion that you can do whatever you want in US.

Many states haven't decriminalised weed so you're stymied there but Colorado seems to be forward looking. As for your constant bragging that you bang young girls: that's about the the dumbest brag of the month notwithstanding your caveat "legal teenagers".

Your post is more an admission that you are an insecure person than a lottery winning American citizen.

To the true champions of life, those 75 and older, living the dream in Thailand, and still kicking it like you’re 45: do you look in the mirror and think, Yep, I’ve won the game of life? Or maybe you don’t think it, but deep down you suspect maybe it’s true because, well, you’ve lived a long life already and obviously things could have always turned out much more pear shaped.

So you made it this far, happily and hopefully healthily, and you’ve done it in Thailand, no less. That’s seemingly not just winning; that’s more like winning with a cherry on top, isn’t it? Or maybe it’s not for you? But if it is, then what’s the secret sauce to making it work? Is it the spicy som tam with runny fermented fish? The tropical weather? The ridiculously good/bad beer? Or is it simply the notion of knowing you’ll never have to shovel snow again?

There’s got to be some wisdom to be gotten from it. What choices do you think got you to this golden stage of life, where everything feels comfortably on track? And for the rest of us still in our 50s or 60s, what advice would you give to help us get to where you are now?

All good here. How about yourself?

Big Pharma only wants to treat disease, with no interest of curing them, as simply not as profitable.  IMHO

When they do have a cure pill, they charge the most ridiculous prices for it.  Damn shameful 🤬

While I do understand and sort of agree with what you are saying I'm also thinking:

My polio, smallpox vaccinations as well as a handful of tetanus shots weren't created by my neighbor and expensive.

81 yo.

I have survived 4 different types of cancer. Mild heart condition, spine falling apart. Cannot walk long distances anymore, as back pain gets progressively worse.

One year of chemotherapy has shot down my libido and immune system. Reduction in physical strength.

If I was American, I would not be posting here. The various medical treatments I got at zero or low cost in Australia would have taken all my assets, and then some.

OTOH, I will die solvent, with all my mental faculties. I am lucky in having a good woman by my side for the rest of my life.

I would not say I have won, I'd call it a draw.

Hang in there. It's the luck of the draw. Like you. I have a wife of thirty eight years and she is my saviour. And I have relatively good health, as far as I know. Some of us are lucky in that respect.

Thank you. I trust we can both keep posting in the years to come.
