Unfinished Buddha Statue Collapses in Amnat Charoen, Killing One Monk & Injuring Six Others

The incident occurred at Wat Kaeng Khan Sung, a temple in Moo 3, Ban Khan Sung, Chanuman District, Amnat Charoen Province, when an unfinished Buddha statue in the walking posture collapsed. The incident, which occurred around midday on November 29, resulted in the death of one monk and injuries to six others. Police Lieutenant Sombat Inlert of Chanuman Police Station received the report from local residents and immediately dispatched authorities to the scene. The collapsed statue, which stood 9 metres tall and was still under construction, left debris of concrete, steel, and moulds scattered across the area. The deceased was identified as Phra Patipha Udomlipha, the monk leading the construction. The injured included two monks and four novice monks, who were rushed to Chanuman Hospital for treatment. According to Phra Khru Wirachet Chinnawongso, the abbot of Wat Kaeng Khan Sung, the statue was being built to serve as a place of worship for locals and tourists visiting the temple, which is located along the banks of the Mekong River. The area is a popular destination, home to a well-known riverside restaurant owned by singer Aem Chonnicha. Preliminary investigations suggest that the collapse occurred because the concrete had not fully set. It was reported that workers hurried to remove the mould to reuse it for another project, despite the risk of structural instability. Compounding the situation, strong winter winds may have added to the pressure, causing the statue to give way. The abbot expressed regret over the tragedy, attributing the collapse to the urgency of the construction team to expedite the process. House Fire Claims Lives of 12 Cats in Den Chai, Phrae

A fire consumed a two-story half-wood, half-concrete house on November 30, in Moo 1, Ban Pak Phuak, Den Chai District, Phrae Province, leaving the structure in ruins and resulting in the loss of 12 cats. Pol. Lt. Nakorn Kamnon, an investigator at Den Chai Police Station, received the emergency call and immediately alerted local fire services and rescue teams. Firefighters from Den Chai Municipality, along with nearby units, rushed to the scene with three fire trucks. Under the direction of District Chief Prajak Jindajamroon and Den Chai Municipality Mayor Damrongkiat Kittiprapat, the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. The blaze, however, had already engulfed the entire house. The homeowner, Mr. Prapai, 58, was not present at the time. His wife, Mrs. Somsri, recounted that she had been selling fried bananas at the market when a neighbour informed her of the fire. Panicked, she rushed home but was unable to save their pets. Of their 14 cats, only two managed to escape, along with two dogs. Neighbour Mrs. Tassanee reported seeing smoke rising from the ground floor moments before the fire rapidly spread. Initial investigations suggest the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Authorities have called in forensic experts to confirm the cause. Chinese Driver Hits Pedestrian in Korat, Resulting in Death
Picture from responders A crash occurred in downtown Nakhon Ratchasima early this morning when a car driven by a Chinese national struck and killed a pedestrian crossing the road. At approximately 03:25, local police from the Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Police Station and Sawang Metta Nakhon Ratchasima rescue team were notified of the incident on Mittraphap Road near Suranaree Market in Nai Mueang Subdistrict. Authorities rushed to the scene to investigate. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of Mr. Somnuk aged 45, a resident of Nong Rawiang Subdistrict, Phimai District, Nakhon Ratchasima. The victim was found lying face down with severe injuries, including a crushed skull, broken arms and legs, and significant blood loss. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Nearby, a black Honda City sedan with a damaged front bumper, dented hood, and shattered windshield was parked on the roadside. The driver, Mr. Ilu Wei, a 44-year-old Chinese national, appeared distraught and was crying uncontrollably. Rescue personnel helped him out of the vehicle and escorted him to the road median, where he remained unable to provide a statement to police. Eyewitnesses reported that the car had been traveling on Mittraphap Road from Choho Subdistrict toward the city centre. The victim, Mr. Somnuk, was crossing the road from the Nakhon Ratchasima Bus Terminal 2 side to reach Suranaree Market, where he intended to sell goods. Witnesses stated that he crossed abruptly, leaving the car no time to brake, resulting in a violent collision that threw the victim onto the car’s hood before he fell to the ground and died instantly. Following the incident, police conducted an alcohol test on Mr. Ilu Wei, which returned negative. Rescue workers transported the victim’s body to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for an autopsy. Authorities are reviewing nearby CCTV footage and plan to conduct a thorough interview with the driver to gather additional details. Pattani Rangers Evacuate Bedridden Patients from Flooded Areas
Picture from responders The Pattani Ranger Unit has intensified efforts to evacuate bedridden patients from their homes as floodwaters continue to rise in the province. On November 30, local news outlets reported that water levels in Pattani remain critically high. Although the heavy rainfall has eased, water from Yala province continues to flow into the area, worsening the situation. Nong Chik District is among the hardest-hit areas, with severe flooding submerging roads, allowing only high-clearance vehicles to pass. Homes, shops, and government offices have been inundated, and strong currents pose further challenges to residents. In what is being described as the worst flooding in Nong Chik’s history, residents have been scrambling to relocate their belongings amidst torrential rain. The district is a key waterway leading to the sea, compounding the flood’s severity. Nong Chik Hospital has also been affected, forcing the evacuation of patients and staff to safer locations yesterday. Rangers from Unit 43, alongside their Quick Response Team and volunteer groups, were deployed to assist residents in Don Rak Subdistrict, specifically in Moo 7, Ban Don Rak Jarang. They focused on evacuating disabled individuals and bedridden elderly residents to safe zones as water levels continued to rise due to the prolonged heavy rainfall and inflow from Yala province. Floodwaters in the community reached chest level, making evacuation efforts possible only by boat. Soldiers dragged boats through the area, navigating strong currents in some sections. So far, bedridden patients have been successfully relocated to temporary evacuation centers in safe zones.
