proof of residence for British passport renewal

Featured Replies

I posted here a couple of months ago about the documents required  by VFS for renewal of my British passport. Decided to go the certificate of residence from Samut Prakan immigration route but have just been turned down on the grounds that they only issue said certificates for driving licence renewal or to open a bank account!  News to me.

I think I will instead go to my Thai bank and ask for a statement and letter showing my address and present that to VFS along with my lease, TM30 and last 90 days certificate. Has anyone tried that recently and had those documents accepted as proof of address?  Many thanks in advance

I would first try with the other documents you mentioned, but if you find out you really need a residence certificate, why not just tell immigration that you want to open a bank account?

Not really recently but I did use a bank statement to renew some years ago.  No reason why that should not be accepted.

I explained to BKK last year that I needed to renew my passport and they gave me a statement with my address in English.  This was accepted for my passport renewal as proof off address.

thanks, I'll do that as a last resort. Seems a little silly though seeing that the same immigration office just extended my visa based on the required funds in my bank account!  Perhaps I'll tick the 'sell motorcycle' instead.

Just say buying a motorbike, car, opening a bank account, whatever, that's what everyone else does
