Overstaying American Arrested at Phuket Airport

Featured Replies

Over the past years there have been multiple similar news stories, and it every time concerned Phuket airport. Not once have a read a report of such an event at Bangkok international airport.

I'm sure a certain poster here will find a story from years ago to contradict me, but something smells at Phuket airport

  • I would be too embarrassed to be one of these officers in this photo, this is the big catch of the day? A short overstayer who shows up at an airport, what a catch guys! lol

  • Really?  This wasn't just a fine and stamp in his passport?  Has to be more to the story.

  • Nobody accidentally over stays,

It didn't report that he was on his way out, just that he was at the airport.

True.  I "assumed" he was leaving since he was at the airport and they saw his passport.

The American man was taken to the Sakoo Police Station to face overstay charges.

…either because he didn’t have the funds to pay the fine or he said mai khaochai

2022 I had a 61 day overstay. Went to Swampy to fly out. 20K fine, stamp in passport, returned 7 hours later, and got everything sorted for my non-immi O visa.

Over zealous IO's. The guy was trying to leave, yet they still arrested him. Maybe Phuket specific and someone is brown nosing for a promotion or bonus.

Total knob heads.

He was leaving.

And that makes it OK with you?

Did he offer to pay the 10,500 baht fine, or was he hoping to sneak out unnoticed?

Good for the Immigration guys for doing their job.

Way back i the dark ages when I first began visiting I accidentally overstayed like 15 days.  I was so ignorant I didn't even know there was a limit on my entry.  Duh.  Went to go thru immigration and got directed to the side.  Paid a fine and said sorry and left.  My guess is perhaps this guy mouthed off or tried to argue the fine.  Maybe he didn't think they could do anything but make him leave.  But there has to be more to this.

It ain't the dark ages anymore... 😉

What is over zealous in the Immigration guys doing their job?
