A long-awaited reunion between a couple who had been apart for 6 years ended in tragedy when the man, who had traveled from the United States to Phuket, was electrocuted after just a few days together.

 

The incident occurred at around 21:30  on December 5 near a grilled fish restaurant on Don Jom Tao Road in Thalang District, Phuket. Police Sub-Lieutenant Thanom Thongpan of the Thalang Police Station received a report of a severe electric shock. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.

 

Upon arrival, they found good Samaritans administering CPR to a foreign man who was unconscious. Despite their efforts and assistance from Thalang Hospital medics, the man was pronounced dead shortly after being transferred to the hospital.

 

According to Ms. Nok, a friend of the victim’s girlfriend, the group had gathered for dinner at the restaurant. The victim, identified as Mr. Thura Kyaw, 33, had just arrived with his girlfriend and exited the car. Due to recent rain, the ground was wet. Tragically, Mr. Kyaw slipped and accidentally touched a lamppost that gave him the electrical shock.

 

Witnesses reported seeing the victim collapse and his body become stuck to the pole. Bystanders quickly intervened, managing to pull him away and attempt CPR while awaiting medical help.

 

Ms. Nok explained that Mr. Kyaw had flown from the United States to Phuket to reunite with his girlfriend after years apart. The couple had only been together for a few days before the devastating incident.

 

Officials from the Provincial Electricity Authority inspected the lamppost and confirmed that it had a 220-volt electrical fault. The faulty lamppost is under the jurisdiction of the Phuket Highways Department. Authorities temporarily cut off the electricity supply to prevent further harm and urged local officials to address the issue promptly.

 

An eyewitness, Mr. Pheu, recounted the harrowing moment. “I saw the man collapse near the pole, with his leg still in contact with it. When I tried to help, I felt electricity through his body. Then the current stopped, he was pulled away and everyone began providing first aid. Sadly, we couldn’t save him.”

 

The incident has sparked local outrage and calls for urgent action to ensure public safety in areas frequented by residents and tourists. Local authorities have pledged a thorough investigation and immediate repairs to prevent similar tragedies.

Recently discovered that our newly built, outdoor living space, with upteen sockets, is not earthed!!!

 

This was wired by an "electrician".

Happens every year more than once. You would think the gov would have figured it out by now…apparently not…

But but it's not a 3rd world country, have you seen Icon Siam and beautiful 22sqm chicken farm condos with infinity edge pool and a gym???

That is what happens in Thailand, together with the 25,000+ traffic dearhs, when you chose to live in a 3rd world country.
Everything is cheap in Thailand, even a life.

Yeah accidents only happen in Thailand.

It's mad to think that I'm now used to putting in plugs in sockets and seeing sparks everytime.  But that just can't be right.  As someone said this is  why Thailand is still a third world country.
