Thai agricultural officials have launched a scheme offering farmers 1,000 baht per rai, with strict criteria for eligibility. The Department of Agricultural Extension warns against scams, emphasising that no fees or direct communication via SMS or LINE will be involved.

 

The Cabinet recently approved a financial support project to aid rice farmers in managing and improving their crop quality. This initiative is capped at a maximum of 10 rai per household, translating to a limit of 10,000 baht (US$295).

 

Phiraphan Khorthong, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension, elaborated that eligible participants must be registered rice farmers for the 2024/2025 production year. This requirement aligns with the department’s criteria and conditions for registration and updating the farmer registry for the year 2024.

 

Farmers eligible for this support must have cultivated their crops between May 1 and October 31, 2024. For those in southern Thailand, the planting period for the first cycle extends from June 16, 2024, to February 28, 2025.

 

The Department of Agricultural Extension is currently compiling a list of qualifying farmers and will submit these names to the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Co-operatives (BAAC) starting tomorrow.

 

 

Farmers are advised to verify their registration and entitlement under this program via the online farmer registration website or through the FARMBOOK application. Phiraphan Khorthong reiterated the importance of vigilance against fraudsters.

 

He stressed that all transactions with the department are free of charge and that they will not send communication directly through SMS or LINE. Any doubts should be directed to the nearest district agricultural office.

 

The registration of farmers is a critical task undertaken annually by the Department of Agricultural Extension. This process is pivotal in planning production and marketing strategies and implementing supportive measures tailored to farmers’ needs. It also facilitates the creation of various projects aimed at offering assistance to the agricultural community, reported KhaoSod.

 

Providing false information to the government carries penalties under sections 137 and 267 of the Penal Code.

What the government should be doing instead is sponsoring a program to encourage rice farmers to replant more progressive and more sustainable crops. The only thing rice farming is good for is to make sure that a relatively poor family stays poor for the rest of their lives.

 

It's a crop that has not made sense for at least half a century and it's horrific for the environment, if burning is involved. Same applies to sugar. 

Why they are not restricting the handout to Farmers not burning their Fields?

Nothing new about it, has been happening for years.

Covers the cost of planting and harvest, I'll take it, well the wife will.

You forgot to mention the methane produced by paddy fields.

Methane is a "greenhouse" gas.

Not to speak of the methane release by humans who do eat the rice.

I wonder how many are even registered. I think they are gathering info about these small farmers, but unfortunately a few thousand baht is all that’s needed. Sure my MIL will do it.

Thailand without rice, is like America without beef, and Norway without farmed salomon

No, the farmer that's rents the land will get the money, as they will be registered with, there local agriculture office, the office that oversees the payout.

The wife's daughter and son in law rent they land and have done for 15 years, almost about the same time, they have been getting they 1000 baht/rie.

I think you will find nearly all the small rice farmers will be getting they 1000 baht/rie ,word soon spreads.

 

It has come up again getting farmers to grow another crop ,not easy rice fields are designed to keep water in ,grow any anther crop and it will get waterlogged and die. land can be drained ,by using a large subsoiler and tractor to break up the land so water can get away ,but that costs money, and the equipment has to be found ,then as I said in another post the soil fertility has to increase before any other crop can be grown ,if not you will have the same problem again ,and will they be a  local market for the newly grown crop ?,as most Thai agriculture crops are sold locally.

Farmers are being attacked the world over. All part of the globalists push to control food. We will all be eating bugs soon, not just those backpacker clowns on KSR!

Good point, in the UK farming is being strangled by tree huggers and Environmentalists trying to save the countryside from big bad farmers, they seem to forget people need to eat ,no farmers equal's no food.

As you said other counties are almost the same.

What "allowance"  will the Minister of Agriculture get with this scheme.
