Jingthing Posted Friday at 04:03 AM Author Posted Friday at 04:03 AM For the purposes I described in this topic, my initial thought was 1000 baht would work, which seems to be a level a consensus of others agrees with. But the controversial part for me may be I only intend to direct tip two people that have the most impact on my life in the building. Presumably the head doorman is the best paid of the security staff so arguably he needs it the least, but it's beyond my pay grade to solve global economic inequality. My motivations to tip at all are not saintly. The package person over guilt. The doorman person out of deference to his power.

novacova Posted Friday at 04:18 AM Posted Friday at 04:18 AM Why bother tipping, it just incites expectations. Besides it’s not required or expected unless you initiate it. A guy working on my car a few weeks ago went out of his way to repair a couple things that were not part of the repair project, though he didn’t expect any extra, I paid him extra for his time.
Jingthing Posted Friday at 04:26 AM Author Posted Friday at 04:26 AM This is a bit of a concern with the doorman. He has an odd personality. I think if I tip he will start to do silly trivial things for me like run to the elevator to hold the door, etc. I don't really want extra fluff attention. I just want him to maybe be in my corner more if a real issue comes up. 2

klauskunkel Posted Friday at 04:58 AM Posted Friday at 04:58 AM I have 3 security staff at my condo, they each get 300 baht on New Year, since before Covid. 1

There are two people I would like to tip directly one the person that deals with delivery packages because I use a lot and the other the main doorman. I understand something ridiculous like 100 baht would mark a person on a stink list much much more than no tip, but I'm not in Kansas anymore and am not moved to overtip either. The package receiving person because I feel kind of guilty for creating so much work and not a lost package yet, and the doorman not so much that he has really ever helped me personally in any significant way, but more selfishly because he's in a position of some power and wouldn't hurt to grease the gears a bit in case I do need his help. I do give incidental tips to staff people when they help me directly in a specific way, such as maintenance people. Pattaya/Jomtien, not Manhattan where I guess in some buildings people are giving thousands of dollars and if they don't, it's <deleted> list time. What amount would you suggest? 500 Baht is a very good tip for them. Don't give them 1000 Baht, it is too much! Crazy farangs 💰

All are excellent, helpful, friendly and always find the time for a chat. When the shop is rammed with customers I don’t even have to wait for my drink. They see me, make it straight away and hand it to me; great service. As a result of my “unintentional queue jumping” I asked one of them what their daily wage was. 300 baht was the reply so that was their tip 300 baht each. All 4 were really pleased with what I had given them. I will add they were going to get their tip anyway ignoring the fact they slip me my drink discreetly. All because you think your a VIP class ? Probably some ex politician or Government beuracrat who had it easy through life and never done a days work ? I'm sick of it
RayWright Posted Friday at 06:29 AM Posted Friday at 06:29 AM We only have a single night time security guard. Occasionally give him a packet of 20 B&H as a thankyou. He's very appreciated. Plenty of wai's.
Dirk Z Posted Friday at 06:46 AM Posted Friday at 06:46 AM Our staff are very nice people. We give the three security staff and the two cleaners 500 baht each at New Year and Songkran. Their smiles are our priceless reward. 1

I am no one special but you think you know me. Your assumptions are so out of line it’s unbelievable and all based on the fact I left a yearly tip for the ladies in my local coffee shop. Right now is the season of the grinch why not apply? Personally I couldn’t give a rats ass what you are sick of you are the epitome of a sad grumpy old man. I seriously pity people like you it must be very hard having nothing to look forward to in life. Now do us all a favour and bore off. 1

Briggsy Posted Friday at 09:18 AM Posted Friday at 09:18 AM Chonburi minimum wage = 361/day. Parcel guy 1 day rounded up to the next 10 Baht = 370 Baht. Doorman 0.5 day rounded up to the next 10 Baht = 190 Baht + 1 bottle of Lipovitan. With a clear explanation that it is for Sawatdee Pee Mai
