A flight to Thailand turned into a scene of mid-air mayhem, sparking outrage online after a viral video showcased the unruly behaviour of Indian passengers.

Shared by Ankit Kumar, a content creator aboard the Thai AirAsia flight, the footage reveals groups of Indian men standing in the aisle, chatting loudly, snacking, and blatantly ignoring air hostesses’ repeated requests to return to their seats.

Social media erupted after the video, captioned with the sentiment that such antics “bring a bad name to the country,” amassed over 29,000 likes and millions of views. Many users expressed embarrassment over their compatriots’ conduct.

“Money doesn’t get you class!”

“We should never defend such behaviour. It tarnishes India’s image globally.”

Comments poured in from Indians both at home and abroad, highlighting a pattern of poor manners in public spaces.

“I’m half Indian, living in Germany, and this is common—loud talking, blocking train exits, and even playing music on phones without headphones.”

“They’ve turned the flight into a train or bus. This plane hasn’t even landed, and it’s already chaos!”

The incident reignited discussions about civic sense and cultural etiquette. Some users criticised the lack of accountability.

“This is why Bharat remains a third-world country. Stop blaming the government.”

This is not an isolated case. A similar complaint came from a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) who shared on Reddit how Indian passengers on a Munich to Delhi flight caused chaos with loud conversations and disregard for fellow travellers, reported Odisha TV India.

I recently flew with Air India from Swampy to Delhi and it was the worst flight that I have even been on .    80 % of the passengers were groups of Indian "Uncles" , different groups of 10-20 men

What do you expect from people who until that moment only used busses and trains in India?

Usual procedure is to identify the unruly passengers and have the police meet the plane to offload and deal with the offenders by arrest and deportation.   Don't the Thai and Indian airlines

That pretty much sums it up.  This sort of behaviour is OK on a train or bus in India, so why not in the air?

I recently flew with Air India from Swampy to Delhi and it was the worst flight that I have even been on .

80 % of the passengers were groups of Indian "Uncles" , different groups of 10-20 men and they all seemed to be returning for a week in Pattaya .

They just couldn't sit still , it was constant commotion and noise , moving about and calling the steward relentlessly .

I was in the aisle seat and as soon as we landed, before the plane even stopped , the India guy next to me asked me whether I was just going to just  sit there and not get off the place . I told him  that we couldn't get off the plane until the doors had opened and that would be about another ten minutes , but he was insistent that he wanted to stand in the aisle waiting for the doors to open

They do also have internal flights in India and expect that many of the passengers have been on flights previously

Assign the crew batons or preferably lathi sticks.  That will get those seat belts buckled.

Obviously, that will not occur thus your post is possibly ignorant but most assuredly stupid.

Don't the Thai and Indian airlines use this procedure?

Go for it l. We sat on the floor drinking vodka on a Royal Brunei flight from Heathrow to Dubia. Never  once was questioned. It's amazing how judgmental half indians can be to their fellow natives.

Thai AirAsia   is extremely racist towards Indians on their flights coming from India to Bangkok.

The days of good manners and politeness are considered by some to be a relic of the past but educated people realise this is the basis of moulding a civilized society.  Such attitudes used to be instilled by parents as their children grew and did not rely solely on having to obey strict rules such as in religious moral codes.  Nowadays with the breakdown of families and the rise of media power (in all its forms) people tend to mirror their behaviour on what they see and read online and from their friends.  Until such sources of influence adjust their ethos to promote 'good' behaviour the anarchic situation represented in this story will surely continue.

It's certainly not ignorant.  The comment brought back memories of India to me.  Police throughout India actually carry sticks and routinely wack misbehaving people with them.

Take their seat numbers, report them to the airline, find their name/identification and ban them from using that airline again.

Word will soon get around that bad behaviour has consequences.

I wonder if any of the idiots were sitting on the roof or the wings  as they do on trains in India.

The wife and I previously had a Thai restaurant in Florida. The Indian customers were by far the most entitled customers we had. Nothing but complaints and always wanted a discount for everything.

I took a similar flight from Calcutta to BKK this year. What can't be portrayed in a video is the overwhelming stench of cheap cologne. I had one hand on the barf bag throughout the entire flight 🥺

I didn't realise that it was possible to tarnish India's reputation globally. It's a dung heap of a country. It literally stinks.

The unruly Indians are back one again to give the ruskies a run for their money!

What does my head in about this lot is when there's a group of them in front of you and they all walk in a long horizontal line, blocking anyone from passing.

Last time it happened I literally said to them 'can you moving out the effing way please.'

Which they did.
