On Christmas Day, tourists in Pattaya received a festive surprise as the city's Tourist Police handed out sweets while promoting the Thailand Tourist Police app. This app is designed to enhance safety by allowing users to report incidents, share locations, and contact the police quickly, providing peace of mind to travelers.

In a bustling street alive with holiday spirit, Thai and international visitors wearing red and green outfits joined in the celebrations. Local businesses also participated by decorating their venues and hosting Christmas-themed activities.

"We want everyone to enjoy the festivities while feeling safe," said a police spokesperson. The police also shared important safety tips with the sweets, adding practical advice to the holiday cheer.

This initiative is part of a larger effort by Pattaya's authorities to ensure tourists can enjoy their holidays safely. A team of over 420 officers and volunteers took to the streets on Christmas Eve to protect visitors during the festive season. This operation, which began at 6:36 p.m. on December 24, was led by Yingyot Thepchamnong, Commander of Police Region 2, aiming to ensure safety for Christmas and New Year 2025 celebrations.

I remember when I was in Pattaya many years ago, around the early 2000s, and met the boss of the Tourist police, He is now a General.

I was with a Thai lady, she was a friend who worked both as liaison for the BBC in Thailand, and in the office of HM the King,

The Head of the Tourist Police in Pattaya couldn't speak English, (their offices used to be located near the offices of the Pattaya Mail on second road), and they rarely answered incoming calls to their hotline.

They would make a photo op out of reuniting a foreigner with a lost passport etc, I found them useless.

Shortly after that was when they started recruiting foreigners into their silly Foreign police volunteer service, It had plenty of wannabe gangsters behaving like the Gestapo on walking street, and miscreants from a failed life in the West.

I hope things have got better.

And to put a 21st century twist on that... nor Apps from an untrusted source!

Being serious (boring!) for just a moment, I thought I'd look at the App.

It's on the Google Play Store (Trusted Source) and Play Protect scans successfully, also my Norton 360 scans it successfully. Naturally, I've turned Permissions to "Only allow when using".

I once registered for some facility with immigration. Sometime after I got a message in my spam folder threatening me and suggesting I send bitcoin. The threat said they know all about me and as proof quoted a log on ID and password. Yes, it was one I had used with immigration.

When you say "registered", how exactly?

Thanks for the response and yes, even apps from the PS CAN cause problems, however my entire Thai phone is logged into a separate Google identity and there are no financial apps on it. (For example  if I use Bolt, I'll be paying cash) Set this way just in case the phone is lost or stolen or I use unsecure Wi-Fi in Thailand with the possibility of "man in the middle" attacks.

Any pictures etc will obviously go to one account and I can simply download them on my laptop from one Google account and store them locally or cloud and/or upload them to another account' Drive. Done automatically on the laptop when I log in.

Never entirely fool proof, but good as it gets

Sounds pretty secure.

Registered was as you would for any facility from a website, where you give them email, a Login ID and put in a password twice, after which I had the facility to log on to do my own TM30.
