Car Runs Red Light, Collides with Pickup Truck, Injuring 13

Thirteen people, including children, were injured in a collision between a car and a pickup truck after the car ran a red light at an intersection in Phra Phutthabat District, Saraburi.

 

Police officer Lt. Kappanat Sriphalan from Phra Phutthabat Police Station responded to the incident at the Bo Phran Lang Nuea intersection. Rescue teams from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation were also dispatched to the scene.

 

Debris and injured victims, including men, women, and children, were scattered across the road. Rescue workers provided first aid before transporting the injured to Phra Phutthabat Hospital. Among them, a woman in the car suffered severe neck injuries and facial injuries, caused by shattered glass and was trapped inside the vehicle.

 

The car’s front was damaged, while the pickup truck sustained major damage to the left-side door. Of the injured, seven were traveling in the car, including three men, three women, and a four-year-old girl. The six passengers in the pickup truck included three men and three women.

 

Fourteen-year-old Adithep, who was riding in the pickup truck, recounted the incident. “My family and I were returning from visiting my grandmother in Phichit. My father was driving normally, and as we turned right on a green light, the car suddenly ran the red light and crashed into us at full speed. I was sitting in the back seat on the driver’s side and only suffered minor injuries, including a nosebleed and a bump on my head.”

 

Mr. Phasakorn, the driver of the car, admitted fault, stating, “My family and I were traveling from Chanthaburi to Lopburi. When we reached the intersection, I didn’t notice the red light and drove straight through.”

 

Police are reviewing CCTV footage to confirm the traffic signal at the time of the collision and will proceed with legal action against the car driver based on the findings.

I think the car driver is new to this 🤔. 

Surely a unable to brake due to a coke can my son had been drinking rolling under brake pedal.

Although the pick up driver appears to be in the right, surely he would have seen the car bearing down at that speed, and braked, 0r did He just not look?

To be fair, from the video, the red light wasn't the clearest. I once went straight through a red at night on an unfamiliar road. The lights were similar to in this video, but with 18 wheelers on the inside of me, there was no way of me seeing the light until I'd already driven through.

The driver sits on the right and the car approached from the left. How flexible is your neck?

 

Bearing in mind he should be looking where he is going as well.

Sorry Sir look again, The truck is turning right, the car comes at the truck straight on the road he is crossing to turn right. It is night, they both have lights, how can he not see it coming?. If you are turning right at a juntion, or u turn, do you not look up the road you are entering to ensure it is clear? You do not need the neck of an owl to do that....

True... but the car still blew though a red-light and thus is 100% at fault. 

 

But, your comments are valid from a perspective of self preservation.

 

Even when pulling away from junction on a green light, I think most of us look both ways as its not uncommon for other vehicles to ignore the lights or try and blow through so they dont have to wait.

 

Another facet of night time accidents is visibility - many folk have poor vision, particularly poor night time vision which is worsened by a strong window tint, in this case it was also wet weather...  late at night, tiredness etc...

Yes Richard, while my eyesight is good at daytime, it is atrocious for night driving now. I will not drive anywhere at night any more, just too dangerous, I know my limitations........well.........one at least.....

Severely severely penalize these drivers who commit these driving crimes resulting in many injuries & fatal accidents. Drivers have to be fearful of accidents, not drive selfishly. Driver education programs must be part of these penalties
