Moving from (non) F visa to (non) O visa.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am French, 62yo. My contract in Thailand has expired, for 30 years I was on a (non) F visa and there was someone taking care of the administrative tasks for me.

Now I need to apply for a (non) O visa. I already satisfy all the requirements (credit, certificates of this and that, etc.)

Talking to my local immigration office, it has been made very clear that I cannot change the visa category while in Thailand; I have to:

- leave Thailand to terminate my (non) F visa

- come back with a tourist visa (visa on arrival is not OK I think)

- change that into (non) O visa at my local immigration

What is not very clear is how I can apply for a tourist visa, when asked for my residence, I am leaving in Thailand, have been for 30 years. I have submitted an online application to go and get a visa from Phnom Penh, I will fly there just to go and grab the visa, but if my application is denied, how should I proceed?

Thanks in advance,

Olivier

If you have already applied for an e-visa from Cambodia you are supposed to be in that country when you apply, and they most likely will ask for proof of that.  And you don't grab the visa, it is emailed to you.

Don't know what I'm missing.

Why are you looking to obtain a SETV.

You stated......"come back with a tourist visa (visa on arrival is not OK I think)"

It's not visa on arrival it's visa exempt entry.

Who told you that you must have a tourist visa.

You can exit Thailand and reenter visa exempt.

Are you looking to obtain a Non O retirement/marriage and subsequent 12 month extension?

You can do that from visa exempt entry.

Which immigration office?

Why not apply for non-O while abroad.

Penang in Malaysia did it for me based on marriage.

Didn't have to go to the Consulate, Jim visa service on Chulia street fixed everything for me.

Had to go because new boss on Samui immigration didn't want to convert my non-B to non-O

Hadn't been on a visa run for ten years, Jim recognized me as it was yesterday.

If you're going to fly, Penang is a better choice.

No visa to Malaysia, the food in central Georgetown is amazing.

That was an assumption on my part.

Thinking best to run your plan past your immigration office.

Tell them you plan exit Thailand and reenter visa exempt and then obtain Non O.

Will your non O be based on marriage or retirement.

If retirement check what they want re financials.

Now they are an e-visa location there is no real difference applying there or anywhere else, but you're right about the food.
