Siam University Faces Legal Action Over Alleged Unauthorised Course
File photo for reference only Siam University finds itself embroiled in controversy as the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) threatens legal action over an alleged unauthorised volunteer police training programme. This programme, organised by a Chinese executive, used the university's logo without permission, raising concerns under the Private Higher Education Institutions Act BE 2546 (2003). The programme, which reportedly took place between December 25 and December 27, charged Chinese nationals 38,000 baht (equivalent to US$1,100) each, attracting over 20 participants. Despite its promotion under the university's banner, Siam University has vehemently denied any involvement. President Pornchai Mongkhonvanit has insisted that the institution is merely a victim of misinformation and manipulation. Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi has urged the university to act promptly in addressing the issue, stating that further delay is unwarranted. The university has been given one to two days to file a complaint and expedite its internal investigation. A failure to comply could result in the ministry pursuing legal charges. In response, Siam University has launched a fact-finding committee since January 3, uncovering that an external individual, allegedly linked with police officers from Metropolitan Police Bureau 3, had orchestrated the training. Identified as Li Zhang, Assistant to the President for International Activities, the organiser executed the programme without university consent. The incident has sparked concerns around procedural oversight, as Li Zhang purportedly signed a letter under university pretenses. The authenticity of this document, which was to bear the president’s signature or an authorised proxy, remains questionable. Nonetheless, no financial gain was realised by the institution from this event. As the situation unfolds, the university's potential response will determine whether legal actions will proceed, underscoring the importance of adherence to regulatory compliance in collegiate settings. -- 2025-01-08 -

January 6, 2021 -- a day that will live in infamy
"sense of proportion and reality" MAGAs are just sooooooo good at that! Equate looting a pair of Nikes with trying to hang the Vice President and overthrow 250 years of American democracy and prevent the peaceful transfer of power. VP Harris, on Monday, gave an example of how adults and true patriots act. 47 is incapable of such mature and patriotic behavior, and had to get his ignorant goobers to do his wet work. The Chief of the law enforcement agency protecting the Capitol and other DC Federal buildings---a career officer, not a political appointee---commented yesterday about the promise 47 made re "pardoning" the 6 Jan terrorists: He asked "what kind of message" does it send to all, including law enforcement officers throughout the country, that violent assault on LE officers is okay ? I wonder if some LE officers will take it upon themselves to engage in some frontier justice and go after any of the felons released by 47? Perhaps the names and addresses of every one of those miscreant scumballs will be published online, allowing patriots who take exception to their violence to pay a visit. -

Revenue Department boss calls on tax residents in Thailand to file 2024 returns by March 31
How DTA's actually work is immaterial to Thailand complying with Tax avoidance / evasion measures pertaining to CRS. Reportable does not mean taxable, it means checking that the appropriate taxes have been paid on the money remitted into Thailand., and still able to comply with DTA's. And in that sense, pertaining to tax avoidance / evasion, the word reportable is entirely appropriate -

Kazakh man reports Phuket investment scam run by Ukrainian and Thai men
It seems Phuket is Scam Central - scams everywhere down there. There is currently stories of another common scam doing the rounds on social media... From SubWay at Phuket Airport nonetheless. Tourist's order their Sandwich as per the menu, and are then asked what extra's they want. If they have extra's they are charged an extortionate amount. Recently a lady was forced to pay the equivalent £72 (yes 72 British Pounds) for 3 Sandwiches - when they gave her the price she refused to pay the ridiculous amount and wanted to cancel the order, but the Police were called and she was made to pay. There have been a handful of similar stories - the Police clearly in on it... how else could 1040 baht be charged for a single subway 6" sandwich. -

Healthcare Insurance
Sounds good, thanks for the info. I can confirm that Thai Life (their Life Insurance that is) do pay out and do so quickly. My Thai wife took out Life Insurance with them to cover her Mum's funeral costs. When she died two years ago they paid out immediately. On the strength of that, my wife has since taken out policies on both myself and her uncle. I obtained a quote for health insurance from SBC (brokers). I declared my pre-existing conditions. They replied; 'we can cover you'. However, no mention of exclusions and the premium remained the same. I got back to SBC (brokers) and they said they would have to check with the company. When they got back to me they said pre-existing conditions would be excluded. I wasn't happy with the evasive nature of their communications. -

Concerns Mount Over Fate of 6 Thai Hostages Held by Hamas in Gaza
What a ludicrous, tail chasing dog, excuse for an argument. As if Oct 7 wasn't a casus belli sufficient to declare war on Gaza. 🤪
