M6 Motorway Nakhon Ratachasima

Featured Replies

I was driving back from Khon Kaen to Bangkok and was on the M6 motorway at sunset. There is one bit where there is some sort of a structure built over the road. The road at this point is on an incline and at that point the setting sun was directly in line with the exit from what ever the structure is. Quite impressive to have this giant orange ball blocking the exit. The photo doesn't do it justice. But what is the tunnel structure for?

High winds is my guess.

Amazing road.

If only they would finish it before I make an exit.

Lot of concrete is probably there for 10 years(?) now.

I know...staggering amount. Looking forward to it running all the way through.

It'll make the BKK drive so 'easy'.

I read that it's supposed to open to Korat by Songkran, and it will stay open.   Can anyone tell me what is currently open?    We will be driving from Bkk to Korat a few times over the next few months.   Are buses allowed on the new road yet?

I drove on the M6 from Pak Chong to Korat 2 days ago. It finishes at the moment on the ring road around Korat. Easy to go North or East from there. Toll gates are being built now so still free, probably another 6 months or so.  All 80 Km/H posted but most traffic at about 110Km/h. Sign saying only 4 wheel vehicles allowed.

Nice.....so about 80km of the trip.....not bad.  Thanks Phantom.   Hopefully more during Songkran.

I have been told the structure is there because the road spans a high-security prison and is to prevent "airdrops" on contraband from above.

It's better than thinking it was an avalanche  protection in the event of snow
