They only need to be chained up when they are out of control..

Sorry to break it to you, but when they are out of control, it´s always too late.

If this dog was permanently chained it could not have attacked the owner. Something not right about this. To your point, no dog, of whatever breed, should be chained all its' life. Cruel beyond belief.

Yeah, in my opinion it´s better to shoot it directly.

That kind of explains it all.

Or this: He also suggested that the dog might have been stressed, as it had been chained for an extended period.

I can't see much Pitbull in there either, if any. Not that that will help it now.

A Poodle would not have been strong enough to chew its owner to death....

The Pit-bull part definitely explains it...   Not that I have any sympathy for the owner at all, I'm just glad this wasn't an innocent visitor or child who was mauled to death.

Looked at the lot. Maybe a slightly broad head but really a broad Thai mix of lots of things.

Here's an adorable Pitbull. See what I mean?

Following the death of an 84-year-old man in Saraburi Province, his dog, a black Thai-pit bull mix has been tranquilised and relocated to an animal shelter in Khao Kwang District. The attack occurred on 8 January in the victim’s home in Din Sopong community, Thap Kwang Subdistrict, Kaeng Khoi District.

Relatives of the victim requested that the dog be taken to the Thap Kwang Municipality Animal Shelter, fearing it might pose a threat to others. On arrival, the dog exhibited aggressive behaviour, growling and baring its teeth at staff. Authorities sedated the dog with a tranquiliser dart before safely transporting it to the shelter.

The shelter’s director, Mr. Paitoon Chantra, stated that the dog has been placed in a secure area alongside other aggressive animals. He assured that the shelter would provide proper care, sufficient food, and monitor the dog’s behaviour closely in line with animal protection laws.

Deputy Mayor Mr. Winai Sawangarom confirmed that dog’s aggression has subsided slightly since its relocation. “We will continue to observe the dog’s temperament to ensure it poses no further risk to people,” he said.

The shelter’s team is committed to adhering to the Prevention of Animal Cruelty and Animal Welfare Act while ensuring the safety of the community. Further assessments will determine the Dog’s long-term future at the facility.

It is possible the 84 year old died of natural causes within the radius of the dogs reach, and out of hunger, the dog resorted to eating the owners flesh ??

No.

According to the television report the dog had been chained all it 's life, so much for "beloved pet". Plus the dog looked like it had a bad case of mange, so maybe abused as well.

yes.so much for bloved pet and bhudda teachings

I believed that until the other week. If the dog is in a condition that the vets knows there's no chance of recovery then they will euthanize.

Probably round them up as they used to do in Pattaya, and take  them  to the Crocodile  farm  as live  food ...

Not my point. Never mind

Shoot the owner  for mistreating the Dog, along with so many other owners who mistreat their dog's, by throwing them into the local Temple Car park or abandoning them  on Motorway's +++

Pit bulls are a breed of dog which have a higher propensity for attacking people in comparison to other breeds, sometimes resulting in grievous injury or death. You can argue that if the animal is properly trained from birth that the chances of this happening are minimal, but the fact is that few of us are perfect pet owners, and even if every effort is made to properly train the dog, the risk never goes away 100%.

In my opinion, when you consider the typical "utilitarian" approach many Thais take towards dog ownership, and couple this with the general lack of awareness of how dangerous pit bulls can be if not cared for or trained properly, I am 100% in favor of banning this breed in Thailand.

This is nonsense. He would not have been killed if it was a poodle no matter how bad the owners are. It's better to play it safe and ban these bad breeds.

I don't see how the dog, on a short chain, could have done this. I understand there was a severely disturbed relative living in the same house. Maybe worth investigating.

I should add that, as I have said elsewhere, I don't think a dog on a short chain could have done this.

Uh... No.

The dog had been chained over a prolonged period. Dog was rightfully angry. This might've been a case of neglect, abuse.

Maybe the geezer got his comeuppance?

Yes indeed, however I still don't understand how a dog on a short chain could have done this. There was a severely mentally disturbed relative living in the same house. Should be, at least, investigated.

He was a lovely dog wouldnt hurt a fly, hoepfully hes been rehomed in a childrens orphanage as that would make sense in Thailand.

The report spells it Ai Dum.

No such thing as a bad dog breed, just bad owners.

Not this idiotic myth again which comes up in every dog attack thread. There are many bad dog breeds with Pit Bulls at the top of the list for attacks and kills. Several breeds are bred for violence and are not suitable as pets, no matter what the owners are like. Wake up.
