As the day draws closer to me picking up my new car, hopefully if all goes well will be by the end of this month.

I wanted to ask for advice from people that have bought a new car in Thailand.

What do I need to check and make sure? How do I make sure I am not getting ripped off or basically what should I be checking?

I have decided on the Atto 3 Extended 2024 version - I am not sure whether to pick White or Black - I am currently thinking Black because the interior is darker and I have kids but is one better than the other? Those are the 2 colours I have been offered.

I am buying on finance and I am waiting to get approval. So when I pick up the car what should I make sure I do, check, etc?

Thank you for all your help!

Are you buying the Thai version as detailed here

https://autolifethailand.tv/official-price-byd-atto3-thailand-2025/

do a search in the forums for ratguard check if already applied to your new vehicle or do you have to make a service appointment to get it fitted

In theory 2nd year and onwards insurance should be lower for the  thai version compared to the Atto3 Extended Range (MY2024) CBU imported model,

Not sure, I know its the MY2024 version - comes in Black or white and price went down to 899,900 during the motorshow and I reserved it then with that price. How can I check?

You will need to ask the dealer is the model that your getting is it the

Atto3 Extended Range (MY2024) CBU imported model, or the Thai version

Dealer says he has both Thai and Imported versions. He says only difference is the wheel design and sent me the old ver which is the funky one and the new which is more normal.......why did they change this and is one better than the other?

He has Black in the Thai version and White in the Imported version.....So another decision I need to make!

Is there any other difference between these versions, I have not seen the black colour in person.....I was going for white but might like Black better.

Is there any reason I would pick one version over the other?

Thanks!

Here is the November 2024 motor show version CBU imported

https://autolifethailand.tv/official-price-byd-atto3-discount-motor-expo-2024/

Here is the Thai version

https://autolifethailand.tv/official-price-byd-atto3-thailand-2025/

Not all parts of the cbu imported version are tariff free I think the list of parts ithat is tariff free is  9

also you may face longer wait times for parts that are imported from other countries

https://miceoss.tceb.or.th/en/customs-exempt-import-duties-on-electric-vehicle-components-or-electric-powered-vessels-with-batteries-for-9-items/

as stated 2nd insurance on cbu imported version should be in theory more expensive than locally produced version

I did read on one of the facebook group pages that Thai parts can't be used on CBU models and imported parts can't be used on Thai models

I make the asumption that China doesn't want to be flooded with parts  manfactured from Thailand if they were cheaper than Chinese parts manfactured in China

Personally Colour is a diffcult choice I have owned 2 black coloured not by choice as I didn't order color Black looks amazing after a wash unfortunately that amazing colour doesn't last long same applies for white looks amazing after a wash then downhill until next wash

I have to confess, I did nothing. I just walked around the car, saw it wasn’t damaged and drove off.

Ditto, walk around (MG ZS) and that was it.  Took it for a long test drive, 240 ish kms, then returned to MG to top the battery back up, to make sure we know how.

The test drive was eye opening, and annoying as hell, the first 30 minutes.   All safety features on, stay in lane, along with learning curve about the regen, and auto braking when in cruise control, when someone cuts in front of you, a bit too close.

Disabled the stay in lane, before half way down the road.  Just annoying.  In cruise control, you need to work the accelerator when getting near things, or the car will reduce the speed for you.  Takes some getting use to.  If in traffic, even on the highway, just don't bother using, unless texting, then the car (at least the ZS) will stop by itself if someone stops in front of you :cheesy:

Actually I only use cruise control on open road, so not to exceed the speed limit, as easy to do, since a very smooth & comfy ride.  90 kph feel so slow sometimes if no traffic around you going slower.

Within owning the first month, took a couple road trips, one short, and one a bit longer, requiring use of charging stations.

Can't imagine the Atto 3 experience being much different that our MG ZS.  You having the extended version will be a bit of a plus, though 3+ hrs or about 250 kms, on Thai roads is enough for us.

You'll find by the time you're done P'ing, stretching the legs, and grabbing a munch, the car will be topped up, or close to 90-95% and you can be on your way again.

30-40 mins, replaces about ~30kWh (60%) of battery for our ZS, so 30kWh/60% back to 90% from 30% for us.

I have read in the fb group pages where some brand dealerships that failed to do the pre delivery inspection before passing the car to the end customer and as result customer was unable to charge car as some changes are required to be performed by dealer as part of the pdi

If safety is of interest, white is the safer colour as people are more likely to see/take note of a white car than black, especially in low light/dusk conditions.

Nonsense.

All cars have LED day time running lights - much more visible than white paint.

Me too, asked for help on a few issues electronic stuff as I don't have any of that on my 16 year old Vigo. Then drove off. One thing though, I would not have black car, looks great in the showroom but needs washing by the time you get it home, shows up everything.

The black version is the thai version.......the white is the chinese imported version.......does this make a difference.

AI seems to think parts will be easier to source here and other advantages like that.....

We are leaning towards the black because the interior is darker while the white has basically a white interior - we have 2 kids!

Darker better for us.

Spouse and I saw a new black Atto 3 the other day and we thought it looked really good--especially with the change to the new black C pillar panel from the previous silver.

So you never check anything when you buy a piece of high price Equipment? At least I do before I pay tens of thousands of Dollars.

Im not looking to get into any controversy. Just a clear - Does it matter whether it is the imported or the Thai version?

Right now I think I prefer the black because of the dark interior - just want to make sure that there are no major differences between the imported and the Thai version.

Please share.

Congratulations! Getting a new car is one of the great things in life, I hope you love it.

I've purchased six new cars here at three different dealerships and it has been my experience that they are in the business of selling cars to happy customers, not of ripping people off.

I would look it over but not get to stressed out about it. If you find an issue, it's been my experience the dealer will make it right. Unless it's a really high-end vehicle, if you look hard enough, you will likely find issues. Don't ruin the day.

I have the Green Atto 3 for 2 years and I changed the SIM Card from Simtel to a better one. Because the Simtel SIM card only provides 2GB of data per month. The drawbacks seems to be that the Mobile App for the car wont work if you change the sim card. I cant make it work and I can't even find the original sim card 😄

Does anyone here uses the mobile app for the BYD?

I changed the rims and tires the first day I got the car to better ones, I dont trust the original Atlas tires.

Also, the other I saw a black BYD atto 3 made in Thailand, and I noticed the wheel and tires were different.

the black Atto3 had 215/55 R17 tires

mine had 215/50 R18 tires

I change to 225/60 R18 Michelin SUV+

my custom wheels are also wider so I can put 235 and 245 tires , the original wheel should not exceed 215 tires.

next tires will be "235/50 R18"

The thing I really hate about this car today , and the reason I dont drive it anymore is the leg room.

guys, it is RIDICULOUS how bad the leg space is for the driver! i'm 180 and it sux so much for me.

If had knew this no way I would have bought that car, no freaking way.

The only car I drive now is the Fortuner Legender, only drive in Sport mode, and doing 8KM/L 😄... yeah it's terrible on the wallet, but I rather drive this than the Atto3 with a sardine can cockpit.
