Northern Irishman fights for life after Thailand holiday accident

Renting motorcycles to tourists is a big money maker for Thais, so rental companies are not going to care too much about the renter having a m/c licence.  many Thais do not have a licence so why any different for tourists.

Throw in the poor quality local crash helmets and lack of maintenance and riding aa m/c is nearly suicidal.  Plenty of warnings, motor cyclists are the majority of Thai road fatalities

After all the "accidents" on Koh Tao over the years I wonder why someone bother to risk going there ever! There are of course accidents everywhere in Thailand, but there are just so many "strange" ones on such a little place!🙄

No indication that this speciric accident occurred on Koh Tao.

Nothing said about where in Thailand it occurred.

The family chooses to not say. Why should they?

They are scabbing money from strangers, some info should be forthcoming.

Cue the usual parade of AN posters who get outraged when people fundraise after a tragedy.

It is not anyone's job yo babysit adults. When you rent a motorcycle anywhere , let alone Thailand , the responsibility is your own. Period.

These crashes have nothing to do with maintenance. And even that is the responsibility of the rider. Inspect the bike before you rent. Take it for a ride and if anything seems off , return it.

Thais do not contribute out of goodness in their hearts. They will only contribute if it is for the making of their merits as to temples. There are too many senseless accidents by their own people on Thai roads as it is.

A young man is in the ICU on life support, fighting for his life. I know some of you here love to get grumpy and bitter every time fundraising is mentioned, but maybe take a moment to think about the situation. This is someone’s son, brother, or friend going through something unimaginable.

Theres alot of grumpy angry old people here.

Or maybe there is a lot of suckers willing to part with their own money without due diligence. P.T. Barnum was right, "a fool and his money are soon parted"

Does it say this was a bike acident? I didn't see that bit.

My reply on another death so many daily, came into this post somehow. This was related to one of the dozen plus that died on a bike on tao and phangan in the past 3 weeks alone. Body counts are madness.

How can ANYONE go on such an adventure without obtaining travel insurance? DAN insurance is not expensive and covers these types of tragedies.

We live in a generation where TikTok, YouTube, GoFundMe, Influencers are the new rave.....they refuse to follow the old ways of doing things, welcome to the New World, no accountability.
