The Bangkok South Criminal Court released a Thai sedan driver on bail set at 600,000 baht this afternoon after he intentionally hit and killed a motorcyclist on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok.

The 30 year old suspect, Seree Srettheenamwong, was captured on a security camera deliberately crashing his white Toyota Altis sedan into a black electric motorcycle ridden by 49 year old Rittisak Prakuptanon on Sukhumvit Road yesterday.

The collision caused Rittisak’s body to hit a security camera pole on the footpath with significant force, resulting in his death at the scene. Seree fled the scene but was later apprehended in Soi Sukhumvit 4.

The fatal incident reportedly stemmed from a conflict earlier near the Asoke Intersection, where Seree’s car collided with Rittisak’s motorcycle. Seree allegedly refused to compensate Rittisak, leading to a high-speed chase and a heated argument, which culminated in the deliberate collision.

Seree was charged with intentional murder and reckless driving causing death. The charges carry a potential maximum penalty of death. He was transferred from Lumpini Police Station to Bangkok South Criminal Court for temporary detention.

According to police reports, Seree refused to provide further details about the incident and requested to address the matter in court. He also declined to speak to the media. Reports indicate that Seree was visibly emotional, crying while seated in the police car.

Initially, police insisted that bail would not be granted due to the severity of the case. However, this afternoon the court approved Seree’s temporary release on 600,000 baht bail. He is required to wear an electronic monitoring (EM) bracelet and is prohibited from leaving the country.

There is no confirmation as to whether Seree will attend Rittisak’s funeral. Rittisak’s wife has told the media that Seree has refused to contact her or discuss compensation for her family.

Seree is reported to be the son of Komsan Srettheenamwong, the owner of a fabric store in the Sukhumvit area. His father has also declined to speak to the media.

I hate coming to Bangkok in the car, mainly because the motorcycles are a  public menace, the amount of times theyve hit my car is unbelievable, and off they go without a  care in the world leaving you with an expensive broken mirror or scrape down the side of your car from their sheer impatience

Yeah Ive read the story.......cue victim blaming, yawn

I've been driving a car in Bangkok almost everyday for 20 yrs., and have never been hit by a motorbike. I also ride a motorbike and yeah, I've nicked a few mirrors, but never broke or damaged one. Btw, love your profile pic.

In this instance the court was totally wrong IMHO

Losing face in public to a Thai is very embarrassing and losing all reasoning.

They also need to grow up and start acting civilised.

In Fact, nearly 100% of the property in that area of Sukhumvit, from Phrom Phung to Ploen Chit is owned by long term resident Indian families.  Almost 200 years ago, one of the Thai Kings invited Indians and Persians to set up commerce in then Siam and granted them a huge track of land which is now Sukhumvit.  They can not sell it, they can only lease it.  Indian families dominate the Bangkok hotel and textile industry and control many of the larger Sukhumvit area hotels.  There is some resentment between these Indian families and Thais as they remain aloof from Thai society and rarely intermarry.

I know an Indian business man in Pattaya whose ancestors were brought over to Malaya ( Malaysia) from India , to work as coolies and plantations workers . In the 1920’s they came to Thailand, and worked their way up in life. They are a  wealthy family, extremely kind and good people all round.
These reports are nothing to do with the ethnicity of the people. There is good and bad in all. I personally hope the family of this man will help the widow and her children. Many people , including Thais are authors of horrific accidents towards other Thais and foreigners.

OK. Apparently a lot of you have NO idea how the Thai justice system works.

It is Thai law that an accused must be free to defend him/herself from any charges against them.
Courts can - and will - grant bail in almost every case unless there are (very serious) extenuating circumstances. They will even let you out of prison if you were already incarcerated.

For example. The legendary case of Somchai Khunplome (aka Kamnan Poh or "Godfather of Chon Buri").

If the name sounds familiar, it's because two of his sons were former Mayors of Pattaya (Itthiphol - 2008-2016, Sontaya - 2018-2022) and the third son (Narongchai) has been the Mayor of Bang Saen for ages (the same Tambon his father was Mayor of for decades).
Sontaya, owner of the Chon Buri FC, was also a Cabinet Minister in Thaksin and Yingluck's gov'ts.
Itthiphol, owner of the Pattaya FC, was a Minister in Prayut's gov't.

Kamnan Poh was arrested for the murder of a political rival, found guilty and sent to prison for 25 years.

But ! He appealed the sentence and was released on a 10 mil baht bail. At the same time, he was also facing trial for a land fraud/corruption case.

Needless to say - he did a runner and he would still be running if his health hadn't taken a turn for the worse and he had to go to the hospital.

So even if you are found guilty of having someone murdered, you can still get bail so you are "free" to appeal the sentence or to defend yourself against any other charges. Even if you are already in prison, you can be released so you can defend yourself.

Even if you are wealthy, guilty of murder and/or are an obvious flight risk - you can still get bail.

And wasn't there a case not long ago of a foreigner accused of forging his partner's names on documents so he could sell their business without the partner knowing about it. (He hadn't been paying the taxes on the money they were making and got hit with a large tax bill. He couldn't get a loan - he claims - because of the "foreigners" owning shares in the company so he transferred his shares to his wife and forged documents to transfer his partner's shares as well without him knowing about it.)

His passport was taken away when he was arrested, he was released on bail - and the police gave him his passport back because he claimed he had a job in Austria that would allow him to make the 200,000 baht per month payments the court ordered him to pay his former partner. (And they believed him.)

But then he was busted at the airport as he tried to sneak out of the country.
He was on overstay but complained to an appeals court and was released on bail.
He moved to Korat but a few days later an "anonymous tip" led Immigration police to arrest him - again - over his visa status.

And he was told it would cost him 120,000 baht to get released (which his friends/family apparently raised) and after about 3 months in the IDC he was released.

(Very strange case.)

This must have certaintly played a part in the road rage. Sure he didn't deserve to die for it, but he rose the stakes, not thinking about his family of four children that he had to provide for. He should have just let the crazy angry man go, not make him angrier.

Those bikes they hit you nod their head (if youre lucky) and drive off, the last one that hit me  poked a  hole thru my indicator light with his  left brake lever. So the bike got hit but when the car tried to drive off hmmmmmmmmmmmm he didnt like it. Looks  like the tables  got turned in this one.

Apparently this guy is a wealthy Thai/Indian.  Giving him bail doesn't bode well for justice being done. Given the evidence against him (detailed on Thai news), a prison sentence would be a certainty for ordinary peope and bail would be out of the question.......................so what's going to happen here I wonder?

Jumping bail??

I can not believe people let their emotions get this far out of hand.

If I had to live on 300 baht a day, you'd be able to see the nerve endings jutting out of my fingertips.

At the very least, that explains a lot of the difference in how we all handle money situations.

Chasing down and putting your motorcycle in front of fleeing car isn't too bright, could have avoided it all  by recording it, then bringing evidence and witnesses to the police station. Which goes back to making sure you have a dashcam on your bike, or a GoPro.

This driver should be charged with premeditated murder as that was exactly what this was, however the guy on the motorbike never should have let his anger get out of control. We know by now that there's a lot of insane people on the roads here and many of them have the emotional development of a 13-year-old so act out at your own risk.

I used to act out on occasion and I had some pretty close calls I've just decided it's not worth it. I take a deep breath I count to 10 and I just let it go.

My wife an I tip all of our delivery food drivers, not sure how many deliveries they do in a day, but I would hope people aren't all idiots about giving drivers a little boost (tip).
