At approximately 10:00 on 23 January, Pol. Lt. Panasit Ritthirong of the Sam Roi Yot Police Station received a report of a collision involving a tourist van and a palm oil truck. The incident occurred on the northbound side of Phetkasem Road at kilometre marker 253+600 in Ban Nong Khang, Moo 9, Sila Loi subdistrict, Sam Roi Yot district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. The collision left several foreign tourists injured and caused significant traffic congestion in the area.

Emergency response teams from the Methee Thammasathan Sam Roi Yot Rescue Foundation and highway rescue volunteers were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities found a white Toyota van, with the logo FAME Tour & Service on its side, parked on the road with extensive damage to its front-left side. The van had been carrying 11 foreign tourists. Seven passengers sustained injuries, primarily to their heads and faces. The injured were given first aid at the scene before being transported to Sam Roi Yot Hospital. The van driver suffered minor injuries.

Approximately 100 metres away, a blue Hino palm oil truck, registered in Surat Thani, was found with damage to its rear bumper and a burst tyre. The truck driver was unhurt and waited for authorities at the scene. Highway officials worked to clean up oil spilled on the road, spreading sand to prevent further accidents. Traffic resumed as normal once the cleanup was complete.

The van driver stated that he was transporting 11 tourists from Koh Tao, Chumphon, to Bangkok. While travelling in the left lane, he attempted to overtake the palm oil truck by switching to the right lane. However, he misjudged the manoeuvre, causing the van to collide with the truck’s rear.

The truck driver reported that he was transporting palm oil from Nakhon Si Thammarat to a factory in Pathum Thani when he heard a loud noise and felt a jolt at the rear of his vehicle. Upon inspection, he discovered the van had crashed into his truck.

Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash and ensure appropriate legal actions are taken.

DashCam Thailand....a pretty general view of Thai road users!

As for this van driver.....totally clueless!

Simple solution to all the problems:

1) Proper Drivers Training

2) Proper Drivers Road Testing

3) Enforcement of laws/rules

Only problem is that the average IQ in Thailand is 88, so it might take a while to implement a "simple solution", at least among simpletons.
