"Soaking" it, ok, how does this remove the stubble,  it needs ploughing in... also, it's dry season, where does the water come from.

Again we see words, with little, actually  no, thought on how to achieve it.

What's tragic is I bet the same farmers are paying for fertiliser when they could be composting, or ploughing in, that stubble and enriching their soil for nothing.

I put all waste vegetable matter ( including coffee grounds) into a rotating composter and it's a matter of weeks before it's usable soil.

Which one? Isn't the idea about "proactive" to do something before it is really really necessary?

  • You could replace all the fossil fuel power plants with nuclear plants or wind turbines, and all of the cars with EVs, and it would do very little to reduce PM2.5, which is almost all from agricultura

  • They even can't stop the blacksmoke cars.., Today we went back from Bangkok to Phetchaburi and we have seen at least 30 cars with heavy blacksmoke..There will be many more but no RTP to be seen... Als

Outside the burning season, the air at least outside Bangkok is usually not too bad, it’s the ag burning that causes air pollution throughout the whole country.

Don't forget all the shops that cook food open air.  The other challenge is that they have the big buldings on sides of streets and no air pushing the smog through.

There ar a lot of issues with the biggest being stalled traffic.

Progressive reform on burning - green harvesting

https://youtu.be/thXstqQcdQ4?si=yExPfXaED66a4vyP

This is an absolute travesty, and fall squarely on the tiny shoulders of the do nothing PM. They're absolute unwillingness to do anything about this situation is an abomination and the list of things that could be done to address this problem are countless.

They could start by pulling over diesel vehicles spewing out enormous clouds of black smoke, but that would require the highway patrol to actually do some work, which they utterly refuse to do.

They could then get the provincial authorities to crack down on the heinous crop burning that's going on with sugar and rice, which is being perpetrated by farmers who have zero regard for their country nor their neighbors. Crack down on them hard and set an example. For the first offense with a small fine, much larger fines for a second offense and massive fines for the third offense. Word would get around and Farmers would start using more environment mentally friendly techniques even though they required more work.

If the government cared one iota which they don't they would start convincing Farmers to switch crops and start moving away from 16th century crops like rice and sugar, moving toward more progressive crops which are potentially more profitable. If they felt the need to stick with rice and sugar they could educate the public on how those crops can be processed without burning, and subsidize the purchase of the required equipment.

Then they can move on to tackle the sale of diesel vehicles, and the government's enthusiastic support of such. It is inane in this day and age. Most nations are moving away from diesel for good reasons. When they are not well maintained, they foul the air, with large, nasty particles. And who properly maintains their vehicle here?

As of January 25, 2025, at 5:00 AM local time, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Davos, Switzerland, is 53

As of January 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM local time, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Bangkok, Thailand, is 164,

I know where I would rather be......though I'm surprised Davos is 53.

That’s true, and it isn’t pleasant to be strolling along Sukhumvit Road when an ancient bus spewing black smoke goes past, but there’s stalled traffic and street stalls frying meat the whole year, but we only seem to get consistently high levels of air pollution in entire large regions of the country, well outside Bangkok, at this time of year.

You don't get something from nothing, ie they still need to add some fertiliser.

The reasons goverment not do anything with the bruning is that they are afraid of losing voters. The party that have the prime minister was voted in by farmers and punish them is like losing power. If goverment wanted to do anything they just have to tell police to do their Job and they not do that.

Natural gas burns extremely clean. That's not the problem.

So there's no CO2

Everyone, it's okay, the people that matter, and their families, won't be back from Davos until the air is breathable again.

In fact where is everyone else? Do the high born breathe the same air as the low born right now?

According to my API app, 68 in Bangkok this morning, 149 in Bang Rakam, Phitsanulok. I can see it blotting out the horizon.

Hope it's gone before tonight's Planetary Collusion.

I'm thinking we should gather all the waste the farmers are burning from them, then truck it to the Thaksin castle and burning it outside until the Emperor and his little princess choke to death.

The PM fronts a political party that relies on the votes of Thailand’s rural voters.

Add that to the power of a certain food conglomerate and it is clear nothing will be done.

Can you imagine this country trying to phase out diesel? it hasnt even been mentioned ...in fact it is probably churning out more disel vehicles - i would say the minister fro transport has not done enough .free bus rides on those filthy ndiesel monters is the not the way forward - start by scrapping them - or convert to electric. Everybody in the world would like silent quiet Garbage trucks- why dont they start there??? waste to energy plants can even charge the things up ..

Yeah the other thing I noticed yesterday was watch where most of the traffic gets held up on Suk.  Under the BTS stations so there is no where for it to go. Hell even the bars that hve doors are closing them to keep it out.

Went to The Mall yesterday. Traffic was worse than before free public transport, and shopping mall was full of people buying air purifiers... Even most expensive models were going out the door which I honestly haven't seen before... But the cheaper, standard models... all sold out.

Two years ago I went to buy one an all sold out.  Including Lazada.  Last year I bought one early.   Very sad.

I always stock up during rainy season when air is good. Plenty of stock and much lower prices.

Less second phase of stimulus handout and invest that money to buy machines to crop sugar cane...FFS!!

He said yes they work fine.......but there is just nothing to them.....the markup is incredible.

He said he was almost embarrassed at the profit levels!!

Is Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra going to make all government announcements from here on?
