Lawyer Thammarat Sarapanya has faced a wave of criticism following his comments on equal marriage, which he described as a violation of the universe’s laws. The remarks came after the new Marriage Equality Act, amending the Civil and Commercial Code, took effect yesterday, January 23.

Thammarat expressed his views through his Facebook page “The Lawyer of Legality,” stating, “Equal marriage is a violation of the universe’s laws,” “Equal marriage is a union unable to produce children,” and “Souls waiting to be born can’t be born to equal marriage couples.”

The post attracted widespread criticism from many who disagreed with his perspective.

In response, popular media figure Kanchai Kamnerdploy addressed Thammarat with a social media post criticising the lawyer’s narrow-mindedness, reported KhaoSod.

Thai embassies and consulates around the world prepared to kick off same-sex marriage registrations, following the Marriage Equality Act’s enactment. From January 23, same-sex couples will have the opportunity to register their marriages at any district office across Thailand and Thai embassies and consulates abroad. Karom Ponpornklang, deputy government spokesperson, announced on Monday, January 20, that the Department of Provincial Administration is set to support these registrations across 878 districts nationwide.

The Marriage Equality Act was approved by the House of Representatives on March 27 last year, and by the Senate on June 18. It received royal endorsement and was published in the Royal Gazette on September 24, becoming effective 120 days later.

The implementation of this law was celebrated nationwide, with over 1,800 same-sex couples registering their marriages on the first day. In Bangkok alone, 654 couples tied the knot, participating in ceremonies that marked a significant step toward equality.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra hailed the occasion, stating that all love will now be honoured by law in Thailand. Former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin also praised the milestone but acknowledged ongoing challenges in achieving full legal recognition and inclusiveness, particularly concerning family structures.

This law will not encourage one gay relationship that would not have happened anyway. It simply legitimises existing partnerships.

Good luck to them I say, people cannot change the way they were born.

Yes, and marriage equality gives a new category of people the OPTION of getting married. It isn't a REQUIREMENT for anyone.

there has been thousands and thousands of adoptiions [ ever heard of Elton John ! ] the problem is in your head, did you perhaps have a very close family member ?????

I remember from when I was a kid how brutal (talking) many kids are with each other.

I.e. my parents bought once trainers with 4 stripes for me because they were a lot cheaper than the trainers with 3 stripes. And many of my fellow classmates let me know how stupid that was and looked and if my parents can't count and whatever.

Kids are like that, if we like it or not.

I am sure if one of my classmates would have explained to us that he has two fathers (who f*%*% each other), we would have made fun of that kid all day. Except the kid wouldn't have experiences as funny. The opposite.

Additionally, it is health for all children to have a male father and a female mother. They are different in many ways and the kid learns from both of them, often in different ways. All this is well documented.

Can a kid be happy and healthy with just one parent or two same sex parents? Yes. Is it more likely that the kid would grow up mentally healthier with normal parents, father and mother, and optimally sisters and brothers.

Why do they refer to it as "Equal Marriage"?
Surely they mean "Same Sex Marriage"?

All the part's are equal instead of one part fits all ..I think🤔

I'm with you on tha point.. let the adults do what they want, but no adoptions, that's a step too far

With some exceptions two gays could have kids from a previous marriage, and girls can conceive through artificial insemination. I agree also that the legal association of homos should be recognised as marriage.

It would be interesting to know if there are any statistics on children raised in same sex marriages. Do they suffer from being denied the influence of a mother or father? Do they grow up with homosexual tendencies by copying their parents?

There are lots of psychological studies about the different role of fathers and mothers.

There are also plenty of studies about the problems with kids who grew up with just one parent.

Not everyone will be onboard.  The critics of those who don't accept it should accept that fact.  At the end of the day it doesn't matter, it passed parliament and is now law.

Quite right, many gays are highly sexed so keeping kids away from them is common sense

Gay couple who showed off picture-perfect family gets 100 years in prison for horrific rape of adopted sons

I know of cases within my own extended family where the picture perfect couple harbored a pedophile rapist. One of those mfs preyed on two of my nieces.  So it happens within picture perfect hetro-couples as well. But one thing I'll state as obvious - men are promiscuous. Homosexual men are men.  Draw your own conclusions when there is not female counterbalance in the union. But men can rein in that promiscuous nature. Most of us do when it comes to children.  Some like the homosexual couple in the NYPost article can't . Those who can't deserve prison, like forever.  100 years is a good start if they make it that long within a pedophile-adverse prison population. But homosexual (men) in a civil union can be upright and as moral as their heterosexual counterparts and make good parents.  Luck of the draw for adopted kids I guess.

I'm still waiting to watch the dog and pony show this will become when the first farang claims he is "the wife" in a civil union and demands "Equal Application of Immigration Laws" that allow the foreign wife of a Thai man to skate on any financial requirement and leads to Thai citizenship after three years of marriage.  🐕 🐴
