WISE transfers taking a minimum of 2 days now?!

Featured Replies

A friend of mine, who regularly uses WISE to transfer money from Europe to his Thai Bangkok Bank account, recently noticed that transfers around 2000 - 3000 Euros, no longer happen instantly. Previously, it only took seconds, but in the last two transactions, the money took 2-3 days to arrive. There were no emails requesting additional documents or explanations—just a longer wait time.

Has anyone else experienced this delay when using WISE in January? Or is it still quick for you?

  • Not really interested in small amounts.   The amount in question is around 3,000 Euros. This used to be instant, taking only a few seconds to minutes. Now they seem to be 2 days minimum.

  • Doesn´t matter if you are interested or not. Wise normally make Instant transfers of under 1k USD/EURO. If higher amount it, for me, normally takes until the next day. Never had any 2 days if not holi

  • I sent AUD10k to my K-Bank account last week. I got the "money received" SMS from K-Bank before I could even close the Wise app.

Instant as long as I don't send over $1000 USD.

To which Bank?

Again that the amount in question for this topic is for transfers around 2-3 thousand euros which again used to take seconds, that seems to not longer be the case.

To both Bangkok Bank and Krung Thai Bank.

Yes, I know the amount you mentioned. I had regular 3 000 euro transfers for 6 month, about 1 year ago, and they never went instant, and always took to the next day. Just the experience I have. Not that I don´t trust you, I might have to do with what country and which banks are included.

But , I mean, if it takes 2 days for your transfer now. Yeah, then it is what it is. I guess it´s just to let it take the time it takes or find a better solution.

Wise for 1 K, works fine but ... .
Two months ago, sending 5K, then 2K, in US dollars. More than 2 days for the 5K, BTW.  Annoying, and as sending a larger amount ten days later. I did a wire transfer direct from my US bank, to be positive of the arrival date. I'm sure it cost more than WISE. I would do it again for any large amounts.

Which Thai Bank did you send to using WISE?

Understood. I assume you were sending money to BangkokBank?

Anything over 1000 USD has never been instant for me to Bangkok Bank, next day usually as the other user said. If your friend needs more instantly, they can send it in multiple transfers of 1000 or equivalent and the fees are only a few dollars more that way.

Seems like it could also be just Bangkok Bank? Maybe Kasikorn is still instant. Need to try unfortunately he doesn’t have Kasikorn at the moment.

Yes it's possible that if he had Kasikorn, it would be instant.

In my experience of regular use, its still complete within 5 minutes at the outside.

Bangkok Bank is usually very quick, unless you tick For Long Term Stay or Property Purchase.

Bangkok Bank, but a friend had the same experience with sending to KrungThai.

I think you are right.

It has nothing to do with the amount, since I always send less than 1,000 euros, and yet my recent transfers to Bangkok Bank took more than one day, until I changed the reason for transfer and stopped ticking long term stay.

For about 6 months or more I have had issues when sending more than about euro 1000, it says it needs extra time. I cancelled them, and got my money back into wise within about 30 minutes. Now I send less than 1000 at a time, and they are instant. There does seem to be a cut off amount that makes them take longer

Cancelling can be stresfull, as it gives no indication on how long it will take to get the money back into wise, it just floats around in the ether for a while. If you dont cancel them really quick , I suspect it may take a few days

From my US bank account on January 7th, I sent the US equivalent of 1 million baht. It arrived the very next day. On January 22nd I sent the US equivalent of 687,000 baht and it took a full week to arrive in the same Bangkok Bank account and was sent from the same US bank account. No rhyme or reason nor any explanation given for the inconsistent and huge difference in the amount of time between these 2 transfers. But the money arrived as it always does and when they said it would, so no complaints from me.

Since Wise started using Plaid, which my bank doesn't use, my transfers have taken 5-7 days over the past 9 months. They claim the delay is because it takes longer for them to receive the money from my bank. I call it bulls**t.  My last transfer was set up on Jan. 17 at 11:52 pm. The amount was deducted from my US account the same day, yet Wise claims they didn't receive it until Wed. Jan 22. The next day, I received the transfer.

Mine are virtually instant to Thai Bank.

I have been using Wise for many years and never had a transfer in less than 5 days (not counting the weekends).

I have never been able to find out if it’s my bank which debits my account and wait a few days before transferring the funds or Wise which notifies me of receiving the money after a few days.

Once the money is « officially » in Wise account, the credit to my Thai bank account is less than 6 hours after, sometimes less.

My observations are: Sending money from a European bank is faster with euros than with US dollars. The path is different as Wise account for euros is in Brussels while Wise account in US dollars is in London. Both are IBAN accounts.

Never been able to get an explanation from Wise about the additional cost for sending US dollars from a European bank.

Wise seems to assume that US dollars are always sent from the US.

The amounts sent are between 5k and 10k either in euros or US dollars.

Did the money was already into Wise account?

My banks would never transfer the funds to Wise the same day giving me a «cooling » period until midnight to cancel my order if I change my mind. Even domestic transfers have this « cooling » period.

Yes, it was already in my Wise account, but my bank does transfer to that account within a few hours.
