Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has reaffirmed his commitment to the digital wallet scheme, aiming to complete the latest instalments by the end of April, a timeline poised for the third phase of handouts. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to invigorate Thailand's economy.

While campaigning in Si Sa Ket for Wiwatchai Hotrawaisaya, the Pheu Thai candidate for the Chief of the Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO), Thaksin detailed the coalition's plans at Wat Prang Ku School, emphasising the digital wallet scheme's role in economic stimulation.

The scheme promises direct cash injections, with the Prime Minister's father confirming that 10,000 baht payments will be distributed, starting with those over 60 years old on Monday, followed by the 16-60 age group in March and April. Thaksin underscored the necessity of these handouts as a stimulus strategy, affirming that the government's promises will be fulfilled.

Beyond economic measures, Thaksin highlighted education reform as a crucial focus. He proposed using artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance educational systems nationwide.

He also suggested that revenue from legalised online gambling could finance improved learning resources, including hiring reputable expatriate teachers and integrating technology into schools.

"This can be as simple as using mobile phones to expand children's perspectives, much like other countries do," Thaksin mentioned, illustrating his vision for modernised education.

Addressing the broader agenda, Thaksin pointed to economic recovery as the government's main objective, with plans to bolster national income in its first two terms should the party secure victory again in 2027.

Reflecting on past challenges, Thaksin said, "In 2001, my administration dealt with an economic crisis affecting all societal levels. This current situation, with grassroots people in debt and struggling, demands urgent resolution. It's imperative I contribute to solving these issues."

Reassuringly, he shared conversations with his daughter, the current Prime Minister, detailing an action plan: "This year, we're committed to improving the economy and reducing or entirely eradicating personal debts. By the next year, we want individuals financially comfortable, akin to prosperity under my previous leadership."

Confident in Pheu Thai's prospects, Thaksin believes the party's economic strategies will yield prosperity and wealth reminiscent of his tenure as Prime Minister, aligning with his vision of improved national wellbeing and financial stability, reported Bangkok Post.

Is it not the PM task to make this kind of announcements? Besides 10k over 1 year is 30 THB a day. The poor can not do much with it and the ones with  500k on the bankaccount or 40k monthly income, are not really in need for it...

But he is NOT in government... 555
This guy has no shame... and the judicial system simple proves how corrupt it is, to allow him to do as he pleases.

Taksin will do anything (get in bed with the "enemy"), promise anything ("free" money for the masses), all to show he loves the Thai people and wants their vote, while in reality it is all about staying in power and increasing his family's wealth at the expense of Thailand and the Thai people.  There is little difference between Taksin and Putin, Trump and Emperor Xi.

You would be surprised what 30 baht per day can do for a bad food situation for Thai people. Unfortunately, the money is used for too much alcohol instead.

I think you totally misunderstood the whole point of the handout. It was to make people a little bit more self-sufficient as well as strengthen the personal economy situation. 10k handout to poor people, if used in the right way, can make a lot of difference.

Unfortunately, they started taking about crypto wallet, but after that, just place it free to use directly in peoples bank accounts. That´s the big mistake, as many poor people also make poor judgement as well as have a drinking problem. Something that makes too much of the handout go that way.

What they should have been doing, is to use the app system they already put in place before the 50/50 application. There they could see if people who applied were really eligible for a handout, they could control what it was spent on, by blocking alcohol and tobacco, as well as that system also gave small shops a big boost in sale and that way contributed to the business economy as well.

My mil got the 10k, no shops for 15km, a shop van calls around everyday. If it hadn't been cash, she couldn't have used it. Lots of rural poor with no access to shops. As for tobacco, she lives on a tobacco farm, could smoke as much as she wanted at no charge, but doesn't smoke.

No, you are totally wrong here. Also, you take a single case as a representation for the masses. There are not lots of rural poor people that have no access to shops. This system works in small village shops, exactly as it did during Covid. There are some rural poor people that are living far out in the field, disconnected from all other life. However, most of them have a family member that visits from time to time, so the bigger part of that problem could be solved as well.

The difference is that Trump was elected.

A problem with government handouts is that somebody are going to pay for it. Right now that "somebody" doesn't seem to exist, so the government is looking for multiple fund-sources, among others casino-income and taxing foreigners...:whistling:

to make a real difference capital investment is needed, not populist sticking plaster schemes that deliver short term and questionable benefit.

For capital investment to be possible we need two scenarios. Both which you can forget really quickly :cheesy:

First, people get work, save money, stop depending on one "breadwinner" and after invest in funds, stocks or insurances. Not gonna happen!

Second, the government will implement a pension fund for all! For that to be possible, all Thais will have to work the legal way. All companies must register their employees and pay tax for them. Not gonna happen!

So, then we have the handout of 10K. Is it positive or negative? In your world of thinking, it will be negative, as you have a much better scenario in your mind. Unfortunately, only in your mind, and living as a dream. I think it´s positive for poor people, and should only be given to poor people. I still stand by that almost 30 baht per day for a whole year, can make a difference for  a person regarding the food situation. If a person get enough food, the person might have more energy, and be able to work or produce more......and so on.....

But, I am well aware of that is also a dream scenario, as it just don´t work that way. That´s why I posted if used in the right way.

To quote my wife, "Army come soon."  It's sad that the counter-balance to a corrupt civilian government is a military coup, but that counter-balance carries weight and has been used so often that you can slip into it like a worn sandal.

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing the entire Shin clan in Dubai permanently.
