“Traditionally, this festival brings double the number of Chinese visitors, but this year, the numbers have plummeted.”

Probably fed up with the place being chock full of buses filled low rent tourists here on cheap organised tours.

Any reduction in Chinese tourists in Pattaya, and in Thailand, is IMO a good thing. Last time I went to Larn the place was destroyed by the horde.

Exactly.  70 million people 50 get kidnapped a year so you have 1 in 1,400,000 chance of being kidnapped.  These are targeted events.  They know the individual, or family has money, crypto or something of value. Sadly I have no Chinese friends so I will miss out on the excitement.

I have not been able to find numbers, but it is not solely kidnapping for ransom we talk of here, but many being taken to work in scam call centres just over the Thai/ Myanmar border where tens of thousands are believed to be held.

Seems strange to me. Bangkok feels very crowded this week (even more so than usually) for the Chinese New Year.

I'm glad to stay away from the Chinese stampeders who charge through areas and ruin peaceful tourist experience.

120% x 70% = 84%, the net result is a 16% reduction.

Pity the AI didn't glitch to truth mode and have her say that the risk is being abducted to a call centre by their own CHINESE brothers

You are right.  Read some of the stories, kidnapped, beaten, who knows what the living conditions are, not knowing if or when you get to go home.  Usually setup in isolated areas with little or corrupt Police.  Very Sad
