Thai tourism police have arrested an unlicensed Russian tour guide for illegally working in the country’s tourism industry, allegedly taking jobs meant for Thai nationals.

On 30 January, the Royal Thai Police Commissioner, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, ordered stricter enforcement against foreigners working illegally, particularly in the tourism sector, to protect local employment and maintain industry standards during the high season.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Phuekam, Commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, along with Pol. Maj. Gen. Phongsayam Meekhantong, Deputy Commissioner (Investigation), issued an urgent directive on 24 January, instructing officers to conduct raids targeting foreigners working illegally and engaging in activities that could impact Thailand’s tourism sector.

As part of the operation, Pol. Col. Songwut Chuephalakij and Pol. Lt. Piyapong Bukhunthot led an investigation and surveillance effort to monitor foreign nationals suspected of working illegally at key tourist sites.

During their operation, officers identified a foreign woman conducting guided tours for groups of tourists at major attractions. Upon inspection, the suspect was found to be Ms. Daria Kalininskaia, a 23-year-old Russian national. She was immediately arrested and charged with two offences:

1. Acting as a tour guide without a licence, in violation of Section 86 in conjunction with Section 49 of the Tourism Business and Guide Act.

2. Working as a foreign national without a work permit or engaging in unauthorised employment, in breach of the Royal Decree on the Management of Foreign Workers.

Ms. Kalininskaia was taken to Buppharam Police Station, Bangkok for further legal proceedings.

Just more Russians coming to Thailand, engaging in illegal work to be able to stay. This guy (read woman) fits better as cannon fodder at the frontlines of Mr. Putin´s war machine.

If you were a little bit updated, you would know that it is a regular word used, as women of today are seen like one of the guys when it comes to work and working positions as well as in friendship groups..

But, look above, I have added info, just for you. 🙂

How many Thais would be willing, or able, to learn Russian in order to become a tour guide for Russian clients? Few I would reckon. Surely, working as a tour guide for foreigners should be allowed and permitted, subject to obtaining a work permit. What benefit would a tour guide be to others if they didn't speak the same language!

That's common sense.. it doesn't prevail here.

Pretty simple math.   More tourist arrivals into Thailand equates to a relative increase in crimes.  Every keg has a few bad apples.     More apple kegs, more bad apples.

@NativeBob if you want to call the Thai police such names again, expect a time out.
