Dressing in slacks, and shirt, and shoes will get you further than dressed like a back-backer. In the past, I always crossed the border in "Business Casual" attire. In fact, anytime I go to Immigration, it's dressed like this. Interesting story, but when I flew from LAX to BKK back in the day, I was flying economy, but they bumped me to Business Class for free. Why? I was dressed for it. Perceptions. They can work in your favor.
LAX has 4 runways and the 24R is where most of the international flights land and on a regular basis the runway is closed for inspection and maintenance. Several times a day Airport Ops personnel will drive down the runways to conduct a FOD check. FOD stands for Foreign Object Debris.
Thailand as a whole just does not grasp the concept of footpaths, Signs, light posts, low hanging awnings, tyre repair shops, motor bike repair shops, flower pots, broken drain covers, exposed electric cables, low hanging electric cables, used to have telephone boxes in the middle of the footpaths - now just the bolts remain sticking up 555!!
