Calling all UK Pensioners - A Petition worthy of your attention (Not frozen pensions)

Featured Replies

Our tax thresholds have frozen for three years now. That's ALL of us, not just us expats. Here's a petition calling for pensioners thresholds to be raised and give a chance to improve all of our living standards. This would increase my net income by approx 1,000 pounds.

We'd all like extra money in our pockets, but if they take it from there they'll just have to raise it from somewhere else which could affect us adversely just as easily as this would benefit us.

Yes, I've met a few but please don't put me in that group.  As said, I would like the extra money in my pocket too.

Tell me where you would raise the money from if you were the Chancellor and did this.

I'd go along with that and it wouldn't affect most taxpayers so win-win.  Can't see Rachel from accounts doing that though.

I'm no expert in the macroeconomics of a country, However the proposer of the petition, Alan David Frost,  suggests that:

'.......... increasing the allowance would boost the economy by giving people more spending power, reports the Daily Record.

The petition, advocating for the raise of the income tax personal allowance to £20,000, claims: "We think this would help low earners to get off benefits and allow pensioners a decent income."

This seems to be more than just putting a few extra pounds in pensioners pockets.

It's in Reforms policy to raise it to 20,000, makes perfect sense

Its always interesting looking at the map of signatures (these petitions never get anywhere; the petition against VAT on school fees went well past 100,000, to elicit just a standard government reply about no money,  tax breaks for schools, breakfsst clubs, 1 more teacher per school etc.

This one will likely get more of the same; £22 billion (allegedly) black hole, Tories, no money, broken public services etc.

Looks like most of Northern Ireland doesn't really care.

Not surprisingly, again, Northern Ireland didn't really care.

3 million plus signatures obviously did not elicit a General Election.
