When I see people demanding alcohol on the day it isn't sold it looks kind of desperate.

Some just don't like being told they can't buy a Beer  by a load of Corrupt Officials

Its a rather outdated law but thats the case for many laws in Thailand including the silly 2 - 5pm, the Election Day ban etc, surely in this day & era it should be dont drink alcohol on the day if thats how you feel, much like some Catholics dont eat meat on Fridays!!!

The irony of these silly laws is that a large percentage of Thai's including the makers of these laws will have an alcoholic drink on the day so it makes little sense, maybe in the next century they will get up to speed with reality??

I dispute the corrupt word used - not all officials are corrupt.

Otherwise - "When in Rome"

Why do so many on this forum apply their foreign values to the country they choose to live in.

Booze will be sold in 4-5 star resorts.

Booze will be sold in the smaller type shops.
We are still allowed to drink on that day, just not in bars.

i have stocked up and going to have a big one celebrating Makha Bucha.

Pool party with a couple of bargirls who have the day off.

Free barfine day.

That was always my take on this. However I stayed at the Dusit Thani Ha Hin on my 70th..NO alcohol rule. As posted earlier I was going to stop overnight in Pattaya this Makha Bucha day so I emailed the Dusit Thani there and got the reply below. To make matters worse, my nearest mom&pop store won't sell on Buddha days either...and finally  I don't own a pool  !  Life sucks sometimes.

Just for clarity if you take your own alcohol can you drink it in a bar ie is the rule about selling or consuming?

Selling

If that is correct.

I know its not within the spirit (forgive the pun) of the law/rule but ....

If you must (not you personally) buy the alcohol at the bar the day before and drink it the next day.

No pretty accurate actually, even the elite 5% who enact these stupid rules abuse them.

Looks like all the piss-heads will have to sit drinking their ethanol out of a coffee cup 😁

No the pissartists and alcoholics will be home alone with their regular supply as they are most days.

Why not close every business, why does the licensed trade alone have to suffer.

I remember the days when pubs in the UK had to close at 3pm every day and couldn't open again until 6pm until 11pm.
