Yes and no. Thais have always ripped off tourists but there are some real dropkick tourists which seems to be increasing. I guess there are simply more idiots these days and more of these idiots travel. As for social harmony a few buses of Chinese tourists will see this disrupted wherever they pull up.

LOL on your last comment 👏  👏 and I will add that I have recently seen signs of what you call 'real dropkick tourists' across town (BKK) in a majority-Thai area that normally attracts a small handful of visitors incl. Muay Thai folks... normally no problem at all right. However, you can always gauge your own reaction when you see some 'immigrant' and think to yourself.. 'how the hell did you afford to get here?' I am talking homeless-looking dirty attire, dreadlocks, and an air of illegitimacy and desperation.

Again, you are completely wrong dear Scottie. Most developed nations downplay, or downright hide crime commited by their immigrants. All part of the politically correct to-not-offend policies. In Thailand it is 100% opposite.

Now a criminal offense in the UK if you report the ethnicity of a criminal.

Thailand’s national police chief, Police General Kitrat Panphet, has directed police forces across the nation to heighten surveillance of foreign nationals amid escalating concerns over public order and safety. This new measure, announced on 17 February, stems from reports of foreign visitors’ conduct that disrupts social harmony, violates public morals, and potentially damages Thailand's reputation.

This guy don´t have any shame! Heighten surveillance of foreign nationals, just because some of them party and a few gets out of line. All countries have this problem. Should not be necessary to explain to a national police chief. Seems like he is hell bent of destroying Thailand´s reputation all be himself. Seems to me that Thailand say they want tourism in one corner, and in the 3 others they are fighting to get rid of them with different actions. What this guy should do, is to think about looking into vote rigging and money laundry, as well as embezzlement in high positions. Not to even speak about cleaning up among his own. How many police do we hear about who do everything from dereliction of duty and extortion to actually break the law and kill?

In the land of the free and the brave?.....oops, I mean the Kingdom of serfs.

All Aliens in Close Surveillance?

In Jan-Feb period alone, they got 3.7 millions foreign visitors.

And Thailand is said to be expecting 40 millions for this whole year.

In reality, they can't even place cops on busy roads  for the traffic watch, how can they do this?

Looks like Tax Chief isn't the only one of Empty Bark.

I noticed something about these Big Talks that make headlines from time to time.

It is often mouthed in order to satisfy some overly nationalistic people here.

Or in some cases, for the purpose of quelling the resentment among the poor(by posing tough stance against the superrich of the nation).

In this context, he looks like intending  to deter some Alien Haters from doing something stupid that harms Thailand's reputation as the popular tourist destination.

Just like saying,

'We do it for you, so don't do anything drastic against when you spot some Unruly Tourists...'.

Yes they are quite racist. Theyre not going to shoot themselves in the foot about it

Some of their establishments(diners to brothels) openly display "Japanese Only; No Foreigner Allowed in"...

They might have had some bad experience with some ass*ole aliens though.

While many other shops started to display notice in various languages including English.

And migrant workers from SE Asia in Japan are sharply increasing(in retail, hotel,  food & beverage sectors), making up their rapidly aging workforce.

In recent years, they dramatically relaxed the requirements to be Eligible Foreign Workers.

No longer need to be the Professionals with fine academic backgrounds, unlike yesteryears.

Now shop assistants and construction workers can come to work in Japan.

Even though it often comes with the Rip Off practice by the Visa Agents on both ends(their home country and destination). Making these poor people pay hefty fee, for arranging their legal status in Japan.

Said to be no less than U$10000-15000; eye-popping amount to them

In other words, they usually owe the Big Debt, before they start to work there(and gradually pay it back as they work).

It is mostly their own kinds who prey on these migrant workers...

Thailand should just set up a GoFundMe account so tourists can send money without ever visiting the country. Seriously if you want to be an international tourist destination then you have to take the good with the bad.

Another police crackdown..... for gods sake if you want to make the country safer just do your job on a daily basis instead of ignoring the small problems until the media get hold of a story and you are forced to step in and be seen doing something ( another crackdown)

No, just get the correct tourists..

Mass cheap Charlie tourists in there millions makes TAT believe they are doing a good job.

However, halve the numbers and get the high class tourist spending is the way to go.

You won't see millionaires pissed and fighting in the streets.

But then what will the bars and Go-Go's do,

Thailand caters to what it's entertainment offers.  Sun, Sea, booze & Sex

Agree. There's also sense that Thailand is sort of a Wild West - where you can really do whatever you want. What we see daily on the Thai news channels of the fighting and the drunken disrespect kind of proves it. How many of these people would behave that way in other countries while on a holiday? Even Benidorm, Ibiza and some of the other downmarket 'sun spots' get passed out drunks, etc., but brawls and the kind of behavior we've been seeing here are much less common. They'd get arrested and face real consequences in other places. For some reason these idiots think there are no consequences here - maybe they're right?

Here we go again !  Next, bring back the TM-30,  back to immigration every time you leave your house for 24 hours.

No consequences when you can buy your way out of any problems for a few baht.

Let me guess your age. 83.

The real bad boys are Thais, not foreigners.

This is just classic Thai, Blame game,  Smoke and Mirrors.

Thailand is very happy to rip it's tourists off and grab as much money from them as possible.

But when a little bit of trouble comes with the massive money grab, they cry like little babies and splash it all over the news. bad, foreigners.

All amounting to a massive.

TIT.

Disgraceful low class comment. 😨

Watchful is good, deportation of violators is good as well. Enforcement against Thai offenders is good too. Not all crimes are equal though, nor equally carried out by foreigners. Drunk and disorderly in Pattaya, falang. Pickpockets in Bangkok, Thai. Neither are good for tourism or the society as a whole but only the Falangs seem to make the news, particularly here.

Lets face it, the government want (need) the money.

With mass tourism comes certain issues which you simply have to deal with - or ban them all from coming.

It's a trade off

Just start practicing their laws and fight prostitution and recreational drug abuse. Next remove  all dodgy agent services and maintain closing hours for bars, pubs and naihclubs.

Problem solved, or at least 90% of their troubles.

Flame away,

Well before the issues in Pai, Israelis often seemed to have  had bad reputation among Thais in tourist industry.

Refusing to pay the overseas call cost when the amount is more than they expected(phone call charges calculated by second) when they used such services in internet cafe(used to be more common sometimes ago).

I have also heard of the cases some of them have beaten up prostitutes in red light district, with the ash tray...

I hate to say something like a racist, but technically Israel is the Worst Hated Nation in the world.

Many Muslim-majority countries usually refuse their entry(not recognizing Israel, and their passport).

So they can come to Thailand, but not to its immediate neighbor(Malaysia), except for the case Special Permission is issued by their department of interior...

do muslim states reject israeli entry? - Google Search

Some blame the Thai nationals for committing more crimes than foreigners. Well, duh, there are more Thais than Forenirs.

You must be shown the door if you come to Thailand with bad intentions. Some Thai men tend to intimidate foreigners, which escalates into violence. I have personally experienced this. The police crackdown nationwide should hopefully help curb and slow down crime among Thais and foreigners.

Your post is clear.

Yeah,

Don't take it personally.

I think there's chronic sad/confused person,  generaLLy a pathetic poster, and i think it's a  cry out for help.  I take them as a "sign of life" indicating that he has either returned from England or sobered up enough to open his computer,  On a good day he occasionaLLy wiLL spew out a post quoting a prior post. Very rarely posting original thoughts, as he has none.

I worry when one of my quips doesn't get one.

mass/quantity tourism over quality is almost always detrimental, in every way. Invest in longer term high-yield quality and you've got a winner.

foreigners have to be among the safest and least criminal demographic in Thailand.

The Thai authorities stun and amaze me when they make nonsensical statements like this. who in their right mind uses this kind of language when discussing tourism?
