Fed-Up Bangkok Locals Demand Action on Rowdy Foreign Renters

Residents of a Bangkok condo are fed up with noisy tourists disrupting their once tranquil home. Foreign renters have made loud parties, the smell of cannabis, and pool rule-breaking common, sparking frustration among long-term residents.

 

The problem was highlighted on popular Facebook page Drama-addict, which featured a resident's plea. "My condo faces daily rental issues too," the post lamented, noting how tourists disrespect community rules.

 

A key concern is the round-the-clock pool partying, with cannabis openly smoked, making others uncomfortable. Security has been undermined by key cards hidden in a cabinet near the garage, enabling easy access for short-term renters.

 

 

 

Despite a face scanner installed last year, key cards are still in use. "This undermines security," a resident said, highlighting the condo's reluctance to abandon key cards for convenience.

 

Frustrated residents have sought help from police and local offices, but have seen no action. "We've complained for a year, but nothing's changed," one resident said, annoyed by bureaucracy.

 

Residents are urging the government to enforce stricter regulations against short-term rentals. Until then, the plight with disruptive tourists continues, reported The Thaiger.

Seems like each new day, another locality booing the invasion by horrible tourists/foreigners.  But, not to worry, the govt will shortly put out a new total visitors  and billions of baht spent by them, so all will be fine after that. (not  though because it will IMHO only get worse until they can clean up the tourism)

if short term rentals are not allowed under hoa rules which is often the case it is certainly the jurristic responsbility to enforce the rules...i do believe that they can fine owners who continue short term rentals after being warned...they can then turn off the electric and water if owner refuses to comply and pay fines...no water no electric no rentals..problem solved...

 

.the problem is when the jurristic either is totally incompetent, doesn't care, or is receiving compensation from property managers or owners to allow illegal rentals to continue....when you buy a condo you are provided with a copy of hoa rules and "should" have the right to expect the rules to be enforced....if you buy a condo that does not allow short term rentals and hoa does not care then you may well find your condo turned into a hotel....complain to the jurristic and give details as to room numbers being rented illegally..it does not take a rocket scientist to figure which units are rented short term.....maybe just maybe if enough people complain you might actually get some action...or not.

My  condo in Jomtien was the epicenter for low class yahoos of every stripe on a short term

rental until the crackdown a few years ago.  Its a lot better now, but some jerks still manage to 

get in occasionally, especially in high season.

But that doesn't come into the equation because even condo owners who stay in places can be a problem with parties,  guests,  pot heads, noise etc .... 

 

so renting or not renting isn't the issue.   Building owners need to enforce strict rules on the owners to ensure a harmonious environment. 

Owners or renters. No difference.

It's the duty of the management to enforce appropriate behaviour according the rules.

If they banned Airbnb in Thailand, most of these issues would go away.

Some condos are almost running as hotels.

I feel sorry for the guys living there and keeping up with this every day.

The editors should  clarify the nationalities  when they cover some troublesome aliens.

 

Otherwise, it simply stirs up general  Anti-Foreigners sentiments among the population.

And it is unfair and dangerous; potentially increasing Xenophobia among Thai people.

 

Pretty much like Sweeping Statement; mixing the good and bad altogether.

Gentlemen and Riff Raffs must be separated.

 

Not all foreign travelers/expats are behaving in the same way.

Some are law abiding and good mannered.

Some others  cause stupid problems by their lack of courtesy and consideration to the others.

 

So it is appropriate to single out the origins of the unruly ones instead.

 

Some deserves to be hated.

Some deserves to be favored.

Depending on their level of conscience and etiquette exercised.

Thai people are not educated to lower their voice when they speak.. screaming is the normal here.. No wonder I suppose as everyone has an ear damage already because all the noise pollution in parties, temple activities election driving around cars and at home even normal talk is impossible... Go to a restaurant and the music is so loudly played that a conversation is impossible. But also at home.. my neighbours have a barbecue every weekend and they make a lot of noise, and at the other side there is a small restaurant with rice soup, where the owners speak so loudly I can literally hear what they talk about... and you have to know there is a soi between our houses and they live on the corner and I am the  third house in the soi, opposite site of theirs. So please stop with blaming foreigners for things Thais do same and more . Thailand is full of Thai people and only a few foreigners

Police can act only when they can see the clear violation of criminal laws.

And rental property things are totally outside their jobs.

The govt won't review  their  rule, because of the few rude renters.

 

Condo tenants should rather collectively talk to the management, instead of forever expecting govt's policy change.

Expressing notice of Mass Checkout (among the agreed residents) might serve better.

 

'Take some decisive action against chronically noisy short-term tenants. 

Or we are all leaving...".

Who writes the hospitality laws and regulations, who legalized (quite rightly so to decriminalize) the cannabis business, who has to put its fingers into each and every subject rather than let the free market decide. 

The owner(s) of such illegal rental places are 100% identificationable so it might be, once more again, the authorities who in such cases do absolutely nothing

Its not a HOA rule, It comes under Hotel legislation, only places with a hotel license can do short term rental. If someone has the keys to a condo, and the owners permission, there isn't much the condo juristic can do. Its a police matter.

Not just a short-term rental problem, many long-term condo renters and even owners are just as bad when it comes to thinking they're the only people living in the building so they can make as much noise as they want.

The condos do have Jurisdiction. The juristic person should act.  Just that most do not enforce it.
Condos have regulations and most require that they know who is staying in the condo and get the ID.
One of my condos has clear and obvious signs that all people staying in the condo have to register.
That short term rentals are illegal, and will be reported to the authorities.
Security check people coming in and out of the condo that they do not know and will not let them enter without sufficient justification. Some condos have very poor security and that's part of the problem. 

Its not just something for the BIB.  Immigration with TM30's, local authorities with taxation.
There's more to it than just thinking nothing can be done.
