A Royal Thai Navy officer lost his life in a road crash early morning on 26 February, when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck at high speed in Najomtien, Sattahip.

At approximately 07:00, Lieutenant Colonel Yutthaphon Boonkoet, deputy investigator at Najomtien Police Station, received a report of a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck on Sukhumvit Road, inbound to Sattahip, at the entrance of Nong Nooch Tropical Garden. Emergency responders from Sawang Rojanatham Sathan Sattahip Rescue Foundation were immediately dispatched to the scene.

At the junction, authorities found a white Isuzu D-Max four-door pickup truck, registered in Bangkok, with damage to the left front wheel arch. The vehicle, driven by 60-year-old Supakorn Oboom, was facing the entrance of Nong Nooch Garden.

Nearby, a blue Honda Wave motorcycle (registered in Samut Prakan) lay with front end damaged. The rider, identified as 57-year-old Petty Officer First Class Nawachart Pathaveenan, from the Air and Coastal Defence Command (ACDC), sustained critical injuries, including a broken neck. Despite the rescue team’s efforts to revive him, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

According to Supakorn, the pickup truck driver, he was driving from Sattahip and intended to turn right to pick up schoolchildren near Nong Nooch Garden. He stated that the traffic light was green when he made the turn. At the same moment, the motorcycle, allegedly travelling at high speed from Pattaya towards Sattahip, ran a red light and crashed forcefully into the left side of the pickup truck.

Initial findings suggest that Nawachart may have been returning home from a night security guard shift, as he was found wearing a security uniform.

Police have launched an investigation and will review CCTV footage from the intersection to determine the exact cause of the crash.

It's so quiet there, many people run the red light but most check first it's clear

That intersection is tricky.  Drivers get confused between the entrance to Nong Nuch Gardens and Home Pro, 50 meters down the road
