Lavish Lifestyle of UK Drug Lords Ends in Thailand Arrest

In a story as dramatic as a crime thriller, British siblings Joseph and Gregory Mulhare spun a criminal web stretching from the UK to exotic locales. For years, they maintained a lavish lifestyle, flitting between Ibiza, Tenerife, France, and America, funded by a high-stakes drug operation dealing in cocaine, ecstasy, and amphetamines.

However, their empire crumbled spectacularly in November 2018 when Thai police, following a meticulous investigation, raided their hideout. The operation ended what was once considered an untouchable criminal network, thanks to insider-turned-informant Ronnie Bateman, who revealed secrets that brought the Mulhare’s secretive world into the light.

Joseph, the mastermind, orchestrated a complex operation, managing everything from sunny Spain without directly touching drugs. He relied on his younger brother Gregory for hands-on logistics, maintaining connections with UK dealers and using encrypted communications for secrecy.

Despite luxury travels and extravagant spending, Gregory’s financial affairs raised eyebrows. He had no declared income yet continued to jet-set, a lifestyle sustained by their illicit activities.

The law ultimately caught up with them due to Bateman’s damning testimony during Operation Manhattan. He provided crucial details that confirmed investigators' findings, exposing the vast scale of the Mulhares’ criminal enterprise, including ecstasy production in Birkenhead and an amphetamine lab in Rock Ferry.

The brothers' downfall was dramatic. After dodging police for over a year, they were captured in a well-coordinated international police raid that uncovered significant drug and cash seizures. Ultimately, £66,000 in cocaine, £208,000 in MDMA, £336,000 in amphetamine, £420,000 in cannabis, and £80,000 cash were confiscated.

Faced with choosing justice in Thailand or the UK, the Mulhares opted for extradition to Britain. Their convictions—15 years for Joseph and 12 for Gregory—brought an end to their criminal reign, capturing public attention.

The collapse of their empire impacted their network, leading to 24 individuals facing justice. Detective Chief Inspector Ian Hussey emphasized the complexity and challenge of the investigation, which brought down ringleaders Joseph and Gregory, who wrought havoc through their illegal activities.

The Mulhares’ story serves as a sobering reminder of the perils of living on the wrong side of the law—luxury and secrecy shattered by relentless police work and the betrayal from within, reported The Thaiger.

It´s great that they reveal an informants name in open media. Now all that are affected by this and his actions know where to go.

Grassed up... while I don't like drug pushers, my dislike of snitches is almost the same.

Sounds like a carbon copy of Robert Smith's lifestyle, only he did it intelligently, funding it with wise crypto investments.  But similar itinerary .. ibiza, cote d'azur, pattaya

Thank you RTP ❤️

These guys launched some profitable ventures. Imagine the revenue.

But make no mistake they had a Hidden Hand in the background enabling and guiding their businesses.

Should've expanded their franchise into Vancouver.

All it takes is a little positive thinking and a willingness to go after what you really want.

I think this is the first arrest I've seen in Thailand where the people arrested faces could been seen.

Secondly if they were arrested in Thailand, why do the get the choice of where they'll go to jail?

I guess he didn't watch enough Breaking Bad to realize you need to have what appears to be a Normal life.

What about the "druglords" in Thailand, how many have you caught, I think zero. The one that get caught are just the drivers or the like.

He's known as "supergrass" in the UK press, since 2019.  His story looks more interesting than the guys' he ratted out.

Looks like they gave him a new ID...

Supergrass has jail term cut after turning back on gang mates - Liverpool Echo

From another article in the UK press (Sky news, 2021):

His identity is now protected by a court order - although his old name was known to the criminals he helped to jail - as it is feared he will be a target for revenge for the rest of his life.

Merseyside police have been easily corruptable, hence that area has been a draw for even London gangs. Source of info from Gangsters podcast on BBC Sounds.
