Some substantial part of the population has zero ability to have consideration of others, it's like they live in their own little bubble and block out everything around them. They clearly aren't teaching consideration to their kids, just how to obey their elders. It's serious societal problem here if you ask me but it's not on anyones radar.

    very sad, but a lesson to us all, don;t ride beyond your capabilities, will be interesting to see whether alcohol + speed played a part, or just a lack of ability to ride an ATV,  let's assume for now

I'm sorry but this idiot was riding on the freeway which is illegal no quads or motorcycles are allowed on the freeway here never have been,, so he got what he got.

Its not a motorway - its a road going 'over a motorway'...  a flyover... over a motorway...

Oh dear....  Your little geographically-challenged heart seems to have stuffed up !!!... where exactly do you think Thailand’s freeways are?  This isn’t the United States.

 

And if your feeble grasp of terminology led you to believe freeway is some sort of interchangeable Americanism for motorway, then, as already pointed out (in numerous posts in this thread), you’re wrong twice. It wasn’t a motorway either.

 

As for your your use of the word idiot - it’s quite amusing how you’ve inadvertently become the embodiment of your own insult but seasoned it with your own element of nastiness and crassness.

He had epilepsy as a result of the accident... he died 6yrs later of a heart attack.

I have just read all 5 pages of posts on this, and one thing is missing from all of them. What I have noted is:

1  The road, apparently a flyover, had a gentle curve to the left, assuming that the quad bike was travelling towards the camera in the main photograph in the OP.

2  The surface appears to be in good condition.

3  The weather appears to be fine.

4  The main damage is to the offside front wheel of the quad bike. 

5  Given the things listed above, even with the lack of grip of quad bike tyres, there was no sharp turn so he should have been able to manage that gentle curve without skidding.

6  There is therefore another possibility, and that is that his death was the casue of the accident rather than the result of it, just as happened with my friend Colin Hastings in Jomtien 11 months ago.

7  Assuming that he was coming from the top right in that original photograph, towards the camera, he appears to have travelled in a straight line, croosed the central line markings into the opposite lane, and carried on to hit the barrier. It is therefore certainly possible that a 62 year old had some sort of heart attack, stroke or seizure, failed to take the gentle curve left and went in a straight line hitting the barrier. The amount of blood on and around the body would give an indication, but there was no reporting. Hopefully an autopsy, as with Colin Hastings, will clear it up, but then most of the posters on AN will have to eat their very cruel words. RIP Scotsman.

I would not want to be driving here at all without a Dash-Cam... that said, I would not want to be driving anywhere these days without a dash-cam - but often find myself hiring cars in various countries without such 'protection'....

 

I drive in the US without a dashcam. Why would i? The drivers arent nearly as mental as thais

So.. Why would you ??...   For legal protection in the event of an incident and contested findings where a dash-cam could have provided proof...

The only 'sensible' reason not to use a dash-cam in your car is that in some countries privacy laws prevent it.

One other reason, the driver consistently breaks traffic laws, thus they are afraid that a dashcam could incriminate them.

I think we all 'have to break a traffic law' from time to time...  

 

... If I do something that incriminates me... the SD card will conveniently disappear !!! 

 

We could go down the rabbit hole of blaming each other from a written description here... 

But some of the markings and junctions are quite flawed....   we have no option but to cross a white line etc....  or change lanes... etc

You said if legally registered they have the same rules as motorbikes. HaHaHa...what rules? These idiots here have no rules. They believe they own the roads. Some examples: Ride in the opposite direction, have no turn signal, pull in front of you on the right at a traffic light when turning right, never use their mirrors, and then pull into your travel lane. I had an ATV and told they are not street legal.

2 years ago a friend was hit by a car at the Pratumnak lights and later died.  The dashcam of the British driver that hit him clearly showed him running the red light and striking my friend within the pedestrian crossing.  The driver tried to blame my friend for not looking but his own dashcam ratted him out. 

BTW.  Something to know.  The police seized the drivers dashcam at the scene of the accident.  I don't know if they can do that in most western countries but though he protested, the police just took it.

I saw a TV program once I think it was about seven or eight years ago don’t ask me the details. I don’t remember, but they concluded wearing a helmet on a motorcycle was not as safe as no helmet wearing a helmet in a car was safer than not wearing a helmet in a car. In either

I would guess that  could be seen as technically correct.

 

The problem is that those in an accident invariably end up NOT on a bicycle but instead flying through the air and kissing tarmac.

complete and utter twaddle - it really suggests that the one with brain damage was the the one who watched that program and believed it.

Basically, ti looks like the driver had "gone troppo". He verted to norm.

 

What people don't realise is that all over the world drivers are equally bad and likely to make bad decisions and human error. 

A road safety system doesn't make them good drivers, it protects them from their own stupidity.

sp outside the protection of teir own home sefety systems they resort to norm in the lax environment of Thailand's road environment.

 

the sad thing is that most drivers dont realise the roll that road safety [plays "back home" and beleive they are "good drivers" in some way superior to the locals - in reality they are just the same and make just the same mistakes.

Update! Update!.....after a 5 sec search on the WWW , this article about just a few of the studies that have been done concerning this o' so important matter. One such study of the American country revealed that...

 

"In the USA, an increase in helmet use from 18% to 50% of cyclists over a decade was accompanied by a 10% increase in head injuries."

 

My  experience over 50 years of touring, cruiser, sport, standard, cafe, adventure, motocross, scooters, mopeds, paragliding, and hang gliding and the many crashes and injuries experienced through these activities leave me with a few realities on using a helmet; there are more appropriate types than others for certain activities. How it is worn is crucial. Kevlar isn't that big a deal- a full face cracked in half hitting on the front guard part of it though probably saved my life left me with a neck injury for years.. Most crashes left my neck wrenched, soar, or injured due to the helmet - it tends to grab onto things and get stuck or dragged due to it's weight, design, size.  Crashing when drunk at 65mph without a helmet not a scratch. Overall, I'll wear them on a longer, faster riding. Locally under 40mph I don't. Doesn't matter where I am. Though the link doesn't talk about using a helmet in a car, it does say more helmet use on motorcycles led to more dying. interesting that in this case when a UK citizen dies, questions arise about road safety, if a THai person dies you just get a tirade about how bad Thai drivers are.

So you don't figure he may have stroked out or had a heart attack, leading to the crash?  That's why they do autopsies.

 

I'm open to the possibility he may have been otherwise impaired, but I suspect his family would want an investigation.
