Where can I get the BCG Vaccine as an Adult in Thailand?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know where can I get the BCG Vaccine as an adult in Thailand?

I'm interested in this vaccine due to its potential cross-protection against recurrent HSV, as shown by several studies.

Care to say which part of Thailand? If someone tells you where in Mae Hong Son, it won't help you if you live in Songkhla, will it.

Bangkok or Chiang Mai. It's quite rare to be given to adults so I'd be possibly willing to travel even to Songkhla, if needed though.

Just tell them you are going on holiday to Indonesia ...

The vaccine is available in all hospitals but given only to infants.

It is not yet protocol anywhere I kmow of to give it to prevent recurrent HSV outbreaks.  True that there is very recent research  showing a benefit but sample size was quite small and earlier studies showed different outcome.  Consensus is that further research needed.

You'll have a hard time persuading someone to give it to you. Best chance will be a private hospital. I can't suggest which though as it will be luck of the draw and ultimately up to the individual doctor you see.

Were you not vaccinated as child? If you are concerned about your current protection then seek medical advice. Why ask on here. BTW the BCG vaccine is good for a very ling time and will protect you unlike some recent so-called vaccines.
