Exactly for this couple "they could not afford to leave".  Way too much invested.  The only I would consider such a large investment would be if I obtained Permanent Residence.

I'm only suggesting that I'd like to hear the other side of the story before drawing any definite conclusions. I admit it doesn't sound like anything could justify what was done, but it would be interesting to hear why the other side says they did this.

So let me get this straight. They beat the sh*t out of this elderly couple and it was all caught on CCTV. The assailants confessed to the crime only later to cry about how they hurt their hands (superficial injuries) by beating the sh*t out of this couple and mental distress by facing the repercussions of their crime. Only to file counter charges about their own criminal activity to get the elderly couple imprisoned?

Just how much is a lawyer for a simple criminal case costing them. What on earth are they doing? 

 

I'd think it would have cost so far no more than 20,000 baht, and the trial itself would be no more than 30,000. Am I disconnected from reality?

No matter who was in the wrong, there is no justification for the beating they took. Do you see the young thug with injuries? Who was in the hospital with injuries? Who is selling up and leaving? They got all they wanted and are going for more.

 

There is no reason to hear anything they have to say. Nothing they have to say can make it right.

Yes, you are completely disconnected from reality. There are 2 criminal court cases here, the first one as plaintiffs, the second one as defendants. There will be some civil cases for damages as well, so up to 4 court cases. 9 years ago I spent a lot more than that, and I got a good deal. Good lawyers will charge more than 100k for each court case. They already lost their first payment as the lawyer did nothing.

Why do people still invest money in this country ? Own a property or properties back in your own "farangland" where there is transparency and rule of law . Then just rent here in Thailand this way if you have bad neighbors or the country/government begins to go to 💩 you can just pack up and move 👍🏼
