The SAT is, essentially, an iQ test, which is something that most people do know.

Care to post your SAT scores?

Or, you might not have taken them, depending on what school system you were in, and where you were intending to study at university.

The scores pre-1973 are not equivalent to those of later tests.

Also, the earlier SATs were open-ended...

Still, the SAT is an IQ test.

I was tested for IQ at ages 12 and 40. The first was for a scholarship, which I got, and employment, which I also got.

I don't know what a SAT score is. I assume it means Student Aptitude Test.

I won't post my IQ scores, I don't need the haters posting. Suffice to say they are significantly higher than the Australian average.

I can tell you I am in the top 0.1% of the Australian population in terms of math and spelling accuracy. But you probably know that already, when I correct you on spelling.

So, as I say, at least in The Summer of 69, the SAT was essentially an IQ test.

What you probably do not know, however, is that I often intentionally misspell words in order to provide you with welcome diversion during hours when you might not be playing golf.

I read the other day that the average IQ in Thailand is 89.

What do you think that says when it is extrapolated across the population as a whole?

Well, since it purports to be the average IQ in Thailand, when "extrapolated across the population as a whole" it says that some have an IQ over 89, some below 89, and the average is 89!

Lord give me strength, a particularly feeble attempt at racist trolling, which says rather a lot about your own IQ!

Stick to the fantasies about foursomes with escorts mate!

This is a can of worm topic which I'd rather not get into.

However, I like to think in terms of a typical Thai person instead of average.

I do think I'm more knowledgeable than a typical Thai person in a general way, but a typical Thai person is much more knowledgeable than me about Thai specific stuff.

Not really hard to consider yourself smarter if in fact the more 'stupid westerners' are in fact already smarter than your average Thai. This is also why these kind of single older male idiot types thrive so well here. The average Thai thinks in 2D: black and white thinking, mainly responding etc.

All this has little to do with education as well, it is just the default average IQ levels. I think the differences here can be as much as 40 IQ points between people while a difference of even 20 points is very common. This is not a issue with a 120 IQ and a 140 IQ person but it is a huge difference between 90 and even just 100-110.

Generally, Thais are smarter when it comes to things about Thai culture and Thai interaction. But as for worldly knowledge they lack this almost entirely. Ask them what causes the tides and they will look dumbfounded.

You realize your comment is super dumb itself right? You measure intelligence based on Thais knowing their own culture? lol. Perhaps what you are trying to say is that Thais have a pretty good emotional intelligence but that is not true either, more like the opposite hence they are like kids forever.

They only still have a good natural instinct / reading someone their mood etc.

So, as I say, at least in The Summer of 69, the SAT was essentially an IQ test.

These tests say very little, many children are simply still playing a lot outside when having to perform on such tests which then defines the future school as well often their future life and career. You get marked stupid, smart or very smart and that is about it.

This while most adults once they are 30-35, not even remember most of the things they learned in school. Same that these adults never learn more once they get out of school and just repeat the same job over and over again. This compared to plenty of people who keep developing themself.

Anyway, I have very little with these types of tests or to then measure someone their average intelligence with it. It's also just a momentum test that one can prepare for very well, which in reality also says little about actual intelligence. It just says someone is disciplined to learn + remembers.

This is in a way why most Thais hate school too, it is all about reading books and theory. They might be able to answer you in Thai all grammar rules of English while not being able to tell you it in English.

We all have different life experiences and ways of thinking, which can make us good at different things. It's not about comparing countries or backgrounds, but appreciating how everyone brings something unique to the table and knowing when to apply the right tool for the job. We're all capable of making mistakes, and that doesn't make anyone less than anyone else.

That is the answer and it is correct. Its quite simple. Its why people like bob will never fit in here. A previous incarnation was bragging about getting PR. The day hell freezes over I say.

Ok, all settled then. That just kind of delivered the answer.

I would suggest that if you asked the same question of many in the Americas, Europe and much of Asia and Africa they would be equally dumbfounded!

There is a huge difference between 'school smart' or 'school IQ' as there is not really a word for it + general intelligence. I know many people who scored very high on school tests but they are actually quite dumb in reality and also do a job they not really like until they are 65-70 years old etc etc.

Guess the question is what true intelligence is in general. Just to be school smart, emotional smart or street smart only, is really not cutting it. There is quite a few people who only excel in one of them and then think they are above average.

Like you have many school smart 'intellectual' types who can't even start a conversation with a stranger. That is essentially a dumb person to me just as much, as of having too much on the school smart side and too little on al other sides.

Same what does grammar say at all? You can only do that with English while others might speak 4-5 languages with 75% performance. Is not even a IQ thing to begin with, you just have to be very bored and memorize all rules or words. So a smart person with a very bad memory would fail most tests too.

I voted yes.  But not because I consider Thais stupid.  Based on life outcome and IQ testing I am smarter than the average human.  Nothing to brag about.  Some people are better athletes and some are smarter.

Having read a bit about IQ in general the consensus seems to be that national or racial gaps between different cultures and races is very small.  It appears larger here due to our interacting with mostly under-educated people.  Doesn't mean they are stupid just never taught to think.

You realize almost anyone in the west doing the classical not much saying IQ test is scoring above average right? Specially once adult? It says zero about your true intelligence. All it says you are not an absolute moron who can only do manual labour. I also score 130+ on those.

You mean they would not fit in with the local lao kao parties? I guess that would be true. But nobody fits in for real with any locals, those who think that always look like a clown invited to a birthday party, like an accessory. I always tell myself; oh look another gandalf!

I’m probably smarter…

But Thais are much happier… :coffee1:

You over think what happiness is as of being smart, and trying to control it. The truth is that happiness is just a state of mind / emotion, similar to feeling anger. That's why a Thai can get as angry as it can get happy in the same speed. Empty minds are generally happy.

According to this list Thai IQ is higher than USA and UK, hard to believe when a lot need a calculator to add up 25 and 10

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/average-iq-by-country

Interesting, it confirms todays reality that Canadians are a lot smarter than US people. Also, but this has been known for a long time, the French are smarter than the Brits.
