Noise Complaint Escalates: Buriram Couple Attacked with Machete

In the tranquil town of Buriram, Thailand, an unsettling incident unfolded, resulting in a 37-year-old woman reporting to Mueang Buriram Police Station after her husband was attacked with a machete by a neighbour. The event unfolded on March 15, leaving both her husband and herself injured, with her husband requiring hospitalisation.

The confrontation erupted during an otherwise ordinary night as the couple enjoyed an online slots game outside their modest home, residing on property owned by the woman’s uncle, 63-year-old Niam. The couple, who work as casual labourers, had just topped up 20 baht into their game when a power cut plunged their evening into chaos. It emerged that Niam was behind the power cut, expressing frustration at his niece and her partner, whom he accused of attracting thefts since they moved in.

However, the real violence came from Prayoon, a 48-year-old neighbour unrelated to the family. Reportedly disturbed by the noise and constant quarrels, Prayoon lashed out, striking the husband twice with a machete. Amidst the panic, Nittaya, the wife, suffered a cut while attempting to shield her husband, who eventually fled to a neighbour’s porch for safety.

Niam, the property owner, admitted to using power cuts to express his desire for the couple to move out, due to his belief that their presence correlated with increased theft. Prayoon, on being questioned by the police, confessed, citing constant irritation as his motive.

As the police await medical reports to proceed with charges, this incident underscores simmering tensions within the neighbourhood, bringing to light issues of cohabitation and safety in shared spaces, reported The Thaiger.

A bit extreme , but justified.

Good grief, another machete attack. Something is definitely in the water that’s been causing all this machete mayhem lately.

Just watch the Thai morning news, everyday reporting similar incidents

A Thai friend told me once ages ago ...  a farang cannot live alone up country because they are crazy and would kill someone over any minor problem.

He was definitely telling me the truth   !
