A Gallup poll conducted from March 3 to11 reveals that 46% of Americans believe that the US is not doing enough to help Ukraine. This is 16 percentage points higher than in December.

Previously, the highest percentage of Americans who believed that the US was not doing enough to help Ukraine was 38%, recorded in Gallup’s first poll on this issue in August 2022. Following  the February 28 Oval Office meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy, the preference of Americans for greater US involvement significantly outweighs other opinions.

I still support his domestic policies and wish he's kept out of the M E fiasco. It's where US presidents go to lose their minds.

However, I can not support anyone that colludes in war crimes and crimes against humanity.

I said it during the election campaign and I have no reason to change my opinion that polls are BS.

Polls are only bs at first glance. Once you apply linear regression you can calculate the nearest result down to 0.1 to 0.8%.

I believe half the reason he was appointed was to deflect from him. Helps Vance a lot. If polls are good in 2028 Vance can claim credit but if bad he can shift blame.

I think Trump and his administration are going for political ambiguity, so no-one knows what the hell he will do next... i.e. impossible to predict. It's not only Europe and other western powers that know sweet FA about what America will do... more importantly China doesn't know what the hell is going on, and that is the primary focus for the US. Even though he (Trump) seems to be cosy with the Kremlin, that could change in an instant if The Donald doesn't get what he wants... U-turns are not an issue for this US administration.

However, there is probably back-door contact going on and the real agenda is just being hidden, even if agreed. The price of US support is going to be Europe spending more on defence... and it looks like that has been agreed already.

China has started to anticipate the different scenarios long time ago. They already planned what they would do in case of tariffs war: which retaliations, which domestic economic policy (increase domestic demand), and which trade policy (focus on other markets). Actually, China may well benefit from Trump's policies and increase its global footprint thanks to him. Trump cutting foreign aid, withdrawing from international organisations, etc... leaves a big hole that only China will be able to fill. Europe will focus on defense, Russia is broke, and India has other problems. It will be open bar for China.

What you say may or may not be true... many fail to see how much trouble China actually is in economically, socially, and much else.

China before Xi jinping was on a stella rise, but he has nixed that with his Maoist policies and tanked everything. The CCP lies about everything or just simply stops collecting/publishing data because it doesn't want the truth out there... like youth unemployment, millions of jobless uni grads each year, house prices tanking, economic bubbles, unsustainable debt, military unreadiness, companies moving to other countries, ghost cities, missing millions of people (so many are posting on the internet about where did everyone go)... don't fall for the CCP propaganda, it's all gas and no trousers. Hopefully the CCP will fall and the Chinese people will rise to a better place.

Of course, there are many problems, but the economy is controlled by the State. The focus now is on domestic demand, which is rather new for China.

That's true, along with trying to get foreign investment back... but it's about trust/sentiment/confidence, and China has lost that for multiple reasons since Covid. Even the Chinese people are not spending, just saving or trying to get their money out of China because it's all going south... sentiment/confidence etc. is a fragile thing and once it's gone it's very hard to get back.

The CCP has brought this about and must accept the reality, unless they will do a U-turn on much... but that's very unlikely as it would be a loss of face and they might lose what the Chinese call "The heavenly mandate", which is super important. It reminds me of stuff like when Mao decided to order that all swallows be killed and other such hair-brained policies that led to disaster... history does indeed repeat itself.

The CCP hasn't yet realised that you can't have it both ways... Deng was the one that put China onto the right path, and all that followed up to Ho Jintao followed on with these policies, making China what it was 7-8 years ago, very prosperous... then Xi tanked it with a  return to Maoism and control freakery... which needless to say is very negative to growth and business.

Add to that, China does GDP growth differently to the rest of the world, Beijing decides how high it will be, then tasks local governments to make it happen... hence the debt mess with LGFVs to appease Beijing's demands. Nobody wants to invest in China now until Xi is gone or the CCP collapses... even Chinese companies are fleeing to avoid all the tariffs. Doesn't bode well for Beijing on many fronts.

domestic demand means chinese people have money to buy stuff and that's not the case, domestic demand is supported by exports and currently China exports are on a downhill trend

That is true; however this extra spending is not just defense against Putin, it doubles also nicely as defense against Trump.

I really do not understand Trump's foreign policies: before the Europeans accepted American soldiers on their territory and political influence as a very close ally for a relatively small investment.

Now the Europeans spend more money, but instead of buying US weapons, it will be almost exclusively European arms manufacturers profiting. If you count the numbers, in the end it will cost the US more instead of less, while at the same time having lost their influence.

And if China is the true target, would Trump not want to have the Europeans on his side, instead of the EU linking up to Silk Road 2.0 (because for trade with the US they have to pay tariffs, while with China they don't)?

It does not make any sense at all.

Unlikely. Certain countries seem to always be controlled by monsters eg Russia with Stalin and China with Mao. When one dies they are replaced by another.

When Egypt threw off the yolk for a short time it wasn't long before Mubarak was replaced by worse and after them one as bad, IMO.
