Are Thai teens more mature than West

Featured Replies

I was in Pattaya Walking street the other night to see what Australian teens , 2 guys standing near a 711

I only caught the last bit of conversation but it appears an older Thai man with his picture board was trying to entice them in a Go Go bar ,I could be wrong but this is what the young guy said to the Thai man

"Don't try that ,I'm a minor mate ,I'm only a kid " I'm only a kid im not even 18 yet "

And I stopped and looked at the guys ,they looked over 18 ,but what got me was their attitude that they are still kids

I felt like being a smart ass and going over and asking where they're parents are if they are *minors"

And this is where society has done ,brainwashed these old Western teens even 19yo to believe they are kids

Oh grow up please

Thai teens are more resilient, more mature etc than the western "kids"

So what defines a "minor " or a child in the West ?

I read on the news a 62yo man was questioned by police for stopping his car to ask a "minor " directions

The 17yo boys parents reported the man ,police found no suspicious circumstances

On Facebook and YouTube there is a man taking pics of "children" who are 18yo /19yo girls walking into a nightclub !

I'm lost at the western society, everyone is now a "kid"

If you would have done that to 18 year old me I would have folded you like a Taco Bell burrito.

I can share a direct comparison.  For the last 20 years of my working life I lectured bachelor and masters degrees in business and in behavior in several Thai unis.

Many classes had about 60% Thai students and 40% foreign international students most from EU, some from Asia, 2 from Sth America, several from Kenya.

The EU students usually 90% German, 19 to 22 years old, male and female.

The German students often asked excellent insightful questions and I often answered then turned the question into open discussion. This often revealed deep understanding by the German / EU students, also the students from China and Vietnam.

99% of the Thai students didn't even understand the question posed by the EU student let alone any further discussion (not a language barrier, all students had to prove they had advanced English comprehension and conversation skills to join the class).

What was also obvious was  that the Thai students couldn't guess what the discussion was all about, they were simple not mature enough.

Outside the cities I see 12 year olds driving motorbikes and 18 year olds having children so I'd say yes.

Not sure why you linked your comment to mine about immature toxic old codgers on here.

As for your post though "What was also obvious was  that the Thai students couldn't guess what the discussion was all about, they were simple not mature enough." this makes me wonder about the veracity of your claims.  A lack of understanding does not in and of itself denote immaturity. In this case IMO it demonstrates the differences between the educational standards of their home countries.

Why do you attribute this to maturity and not language skills or general intelligence?

Generally speaking I find Thai kids more pleasant to be around than annoying western kids.

Girls haven’t been brainwashed by feminists and seem a lot happier generally.

That's because Thai kids are deferential and obedient. Even though it's badly on the decline Western kids still have critical thinking and will question the teacher, something which is forbidden for This kids and in my opinion has a retarding effect on them.

It is called grengjai. เกรงใจ

Western kids don’t have it, you probably don’t even know what it is/means.

Which makes them not necessarily more mature.

But indeed, the infantilization of youngsters in the west has created many weird circumstances, where people are old enough to vote, drive or become a soldier, but have the emotional maturity and social ability of 12 year olds.

I am not sure what is better.

Having a stunted childhood as many Thai youth have who need to look after themselves early (especdially those from poor backgrounds), or the padded extended childhood the west now often offers... the brain matures at 25 and we all live longer, so maybe, in balance, we would have the luxury of not rushing to become adults.

That actually shows a lack of maturity. Kids having kids with kids, not understanding they aren't capable of raising them and grandma will get them soon. Happens in all countries but more so here. The courts don't make the boys responsible for supporting the children they make, so they keep doing it. I see 8 year olds driving scooters here and that's  the parents fault, or grandma, depending on who's taking care of them. Illegal and dangerous and an accident waiting to happen. An 18 year old can be considered an adult in most places but they aren't mature enough to carry that handle. Some mature younger than others because of how they were raised and some have maturity forced upon them by neglect, although they are still not mature enough for many things.

Girls are looked at as inferior here, and they aren't happy about it. Boys are considered to be more special and if you look at their actions daily on the news and the crime reports, you would see they are generally spoiled from this and act the part.

Girls like being inferior. That being said id rather be a girl in the west

Well, if smoking tobacco and going everyday to a cannabis shop is an indicator, well, hummmm

No, girls allow themselves to be inferior because of parents who teach them they are, and a culture that believes they are.

Girls are inferior though. Weaker, can't read maps, can't drive very well. Even the best chefs are men.

I think women, and men, are unhappy all over. Unrealistic expectations and jealousy over what others have leads to a depressed mood, with an economy ruined by rich people in charge who's main agenda is to remain rich and only do the minimum to help the poor, as they look at them as lesser humans.

I have daughters, cant bring myself to have them grow up in thailand and get pregnant at 16

If i were a girl id rather be feminist than what the girls in thailand have to deal with. Not something i want to experience for myself in the future

With that attitude you're only recourse is hookers, because a smart, independent woman wouldn't want anything to do with one who thinks they are better than they are. Plenty of men can't read maps, and since when are maps necessary if you have GPS in your phone? As far as driving, I've noticed all of my life what are the worst drivers, and it isn't women but Asians, teenagers, very old who drive too slow in  a fast environment, and women and men who act like Karens, thinking they own the road. The majority of the best known  chefs are men, but the majority of the primary cooks and chefs are still women.

One major reason I will leave Thailand with my daughter as soon as I can re establish back home. This isn't a good country for females in many regards.
