I am having a bad week.

1)  I applied for and successfully achieved a Schengen Visa for my TGF.  I paid for Courier delivery.  The sorting office mis-labelled it.  The dolt went to the wrong house & hurled it up the driveway without securing a signature.  It took hours of sleuthing & a visit to the Sorting Office. The problem was solved by the owner of the wrong house phoning my GF's telephone number on the front of the package.

 

2)  I was then summoned to attend any branch of the Bangkok Bank because there was a problem.  (I have over 1 million in a current & savings account.)  I duly presented myself at the Numchai Branch on Suk & received a ticket showing 8 people ahead of me.  After 45 minutes, the two desks finally completed dealing with ONE customer.  Aged 82, I realised I was in more danger of dying of old age then getting served and left loudly declaring the inefficiency of the staff/banking procedures.

 

3)  My GF's daughter finally graduated and I decided we would take a bus to Korat rather than risk this geriatric driver attempting a 350 kms journey.  I found a depot on 3rd Road called Sri Monkol.  It operated a VIP bus for 400 baht a head so I bought 2 tickets.  The VIP bus had some slight damage to the rear.  During the NINE hour journey I had ample opportunity to examine the road-worthiness of the VIP vehicle.  Every crack in the road impacted the passengers probably because the tires were over-inflated.  There was no visible tread on any of the tires.  Prior to a visit to a Weigh Station (?) the driver maintained a 15kph speed limit for 30 minutes, then hit 150 immediately after passing an inspection!

 

On the return journey we went with NCA who managed the return journey in a mere 7.5 hours AND provided free water & cookies for 25% less than the infamous Sri Monkol outfit.  I feel better now.

The travelling times are outrageous. Normally I expect them to make 60 km/h on average.

Is same with anything like traffic etc. Being selfish is the issue here. People drive double lane half the max speed without mirroring, alone on the world. No different with forcing kids into a 1M baht marriage and then a 1.5M more for a house and car, just so that the parents look good.

Been going to my Bank for over 10 years, nobody appears to recognise me and anything other than deposit or withdraw leads to head scratching, other members of staff and often phone calls. They can't even give you cash without getting mrs senior over to tap a few keys. Most act as if it's their fist week on the job, need a new bankbook? thats a major head scratch and four forms to fill in.

I don't understand why people still need to visit their bank, you do not even really need a card anymore since you can even withdraw cash using the app. Still prefer visiting the bank for a few hours over immigration though.

True, but as I said before, I received a summons when accessing my account on line.

My only annual visit to a bank is for a letter to Immigration.

@mikebell,things do not always go the way we would like and it sure is enough to get some one disgruntled.

Never mind,a new week and new chances.I think you may have to go back to the bank and get sorted over there.

It is of course not wise to lose your temper but non of us are saints.

Try to go straight to the manager and sometimes a little sweet talk does wonders.

Don't let it get you down,keep you eye on the goal.

I use and like cash money. Sometimes I need a lot and can not take it at ATM. Sleep good to know staff or skammer not stealing my money. Only one account have card

I recently installed the SCB app like my local (excellent) branch staff kept suggesting. In three months I've had to attend my branch three times.

 

Got locked from the app twice for no apparent reason. The call center said I needed to identify myself in person.

 

The other time my app was blocked due to a suspicious transaction. The call center couldn't tell me the problem; they just said I needed to go to the branch. I spent nearly an hour at the branch with three staff going through my transactions for the last three years. Finally, they told me there was a suspicious transaction from overseas... when I showed them it was me transferring funds from overseas to my account, just like I had done multiple times for years, they gave up and unblocked the app for me. When I went in to the branch, I was seen to immediately. By the time I finished, there were about twenty people waiting to see a staff member... not my fault.. 🙂

I was a Treasurer for a Mooban Juristic account.  Every month (for 5 years) I went to cash a cheque for staff wages, (security, office manager, garbage clean-up.)  Every time I was greeted as a suspected terrorist.  Because I never knew the Thai year, I would ask the cashier to put it in.  Occasionally she wrote it on a piece of paper for me to copy.  One time she wrote it incorrectly reversing the date & month.  I duly copied it & represented it.  Then she said 'you make mistake - you need a new cheque.'  After waiting over an hour, the thought of undertaking a 30 kms round trip to get a new cheque because of her mistake pissed me off.  I called the manager; explained the problem & asked her to witness my altering the date in her presence.  'Cannot'.  I pointed out I would close our account (nearly 2 million) if she treated me this way.  She shrugged her shoulders so we became Ex-Kasikorn members.

I will when I get there!  I have been in communication  with - Website : Inquiry - Branch Services. Their service has been excellent: almost immediate responses in exemplary English (AI?).  They have promised me an appointment with a manager, tomorrow at 11am.  This to be confirmed by 2nd Road branch. Still waiting after nearly a week's worth of correspondence.

I was going to suggest NCA but you figured it out for yourself......although my Mrs does most of the driving these days.

Bangkok Bank can be very slow at the desk tellers.... that branch often gets foreigners who appear to want to do complicated things, and of course time is of no consequence......

Just back from my appointment at 2nd Road branch.  I was seen to immediately by a young man with good English.  I presented him with a number of letters (translated into Thai) by the helpful Head office.  He brought up my account and could find no reason why I had been summoned.  He accompanied me to the bank's ATM machine to prove that my card was working.  (yesterday when attempting to use it I was informed 'Insufficient Data problem' and denied funds.)  Luckily the Kasikorn machine next door had  no problem!

He could not answer what he had done when bringing up my account that made everything right.  He assured me it was nothing I had done wrongly.  He expressed surprise that I was dissatisfied at having to make two trips to two branches at my own expense in terms of time and petrol.

Decided to change my phone number, my previous number has long expired!

Went to local Bangkok bank branch, saw an advisor at 0900 hours.

After much discussion between Russia and USA (my wife and advisor), the advisor advised me to go to the True phone shop where I registered the SIM card!

1030 hrs my wife received a piece of paper from True mobile advisor!

Took True mobile piece of paper to another Bangkok bank branch!

Spoke with bank advisor for half an hour, told to get another piece of confirmation from True mobile phone shop, left bank high noon!

Arrived at True phone shop and waited in long slow moving queue!

I stuck True piece of paper at supervisor and demanded the situation be corrected immediately!

Wife upset with me and supervisor just brushed me aside, no apology, no smiles!

After exchanging 50 bath for another piece of paper, left True shop at 1400 hrs!

Arrived at Bangkok bank branch 1445 hrs, signed ten pieces of paper after showing five pieces of paper!

Phone call to head office, long Lanna conversation with wife and odd sideways looks in my direction, the adviser advised me that the process should be completed within the week and that I should expect an SMS...!!!

1600 hrs started journey home...!

Total time out of the house with no food or drink stops 9 hours, total gas used in car, not noted but roughly 200kms driving, total days taken off of my life, innumerable!!

Soviet efficiency?

sorry to hear all your issues,  but your 82yrs of age,  you can get in house hospice care to assist you daily.  There are companies that provide 24/7 care for you,   let me know if you want some contacts.

I have a Thai Farmers Bank account and it takes age to deposit cash into it, and they want my passport too!!!

 

I get my immigration letter from BB on Second Road and they are very good and quick, but I'm always the first person in there.

I've been writing cheques for years, always using the Gregorian calendar years and never ever had any problems with it. If I ever made a mistake with a cheque they would call me to ask what to do, and if I authorised them to make the payment they'd do it and ask me to come in and make the correction later obviously if there is more than 1 signatory on the account all must sign after the correction and in a case of a company the official company's stamp is needed.. In some instances they actually sent a bank employee to my office to get it fixed.

And you complain of a bad day - - what must it be like for the guy who owns the wrong house? He goes home every night and he is in the wrong house... and as the owner, he probably can't sell it because nobody wants to live in the wrong house... now that's a problem. Be thankful.

Is this a joke?  I challenge you to accompany me to a gym & complete my four times a week regime or play table tennis against me (tho' I do not have a vacant day as I play 3 times a week against opponents 17 years my junior.)
