Freedom of speach certailny is protected.... Thailand has harsh defamation laws !

Defamation laws are laws against the exercise of absolute free speech - not for. Of course, speech should have some limits, but you've made my case for me

112 .. that is anti speech.

These laws limit, curtail speech.

I recall when stalls were selling Osama Bin Laden T-shirts....    I thought at the time...  there's a segment of society here that is incredibly juvenile and insensitive to world events.

Every country has their local sensibilities. Trying denying the holocaust in Germany.

Of course, a simple T-Shirt can't harm anyone, but the imagery is powerful and this shows extreme ignorance - instead of defending herself, the vendor should be ashamed and embarrassed, as should anyone who purchases such items.

Ignorance?

She started to sell that shirt as she knows what is going on, what Ruscists are doing to Ukraine.

And promoting that merchandise is her way of fighting against it.

I call her Brave, not Ignorance.

It would certainly make Ruscists uncomfortable though.

Ruscists=Russ military expansionists(pro-invasion soldiers/civilians)

Speach, even when factual... will land one in hot water under the defamation laws in Thailand.

I could equally go back to an extreme example I used earlier...

Its not important to everyone else...  but, anyone with decency knows this would be offensive.

The lines between basic decency and 'woke' (same mold and mildew that has developed in the west) are being blurred - but it shouldn't.

Basic decency has never changed - our tolerance for the lack of it seems to be being eroded, thats all.

Are we becoming more tolerant, or just less considerate ?

Hello Richard, I have said enough already on this topic.

But I agree with everything YOU have said on the side of common decency and is NOT woke or Political correctness from whence I come!

Yes! CNN is my main source of news—90% or more. The only other sources I have are Facebook, AseanNow Forums, and other social media sites. I read the articles and comments on these, and some are interesting and indeed may be true, but I don't accept any of that as actual fact. CNN is my source for that.

What sources do you have that you accept as fact?

90% of your news source is cnn?  Then facebook, then Asean Now?

Like I wrote earlier.  "Now I understand why you post the comments you post!"

My sources are a heck of a lot more varied than yours.  I don't depend on a source that, at times, has blatantly lied.

How about, cnn lied?

Indeed. Many countries.

But selling a Putin t-shirt is something only Britain and N Europe would ban.

That's why it's ridiculous to be discussing such matters on this forum

Free speech absolutists almost always will be American.

The link you provided took me to a "Yandex" browser and asked me to prove I was a real person. I did, but then there was no article.

And, by the way, when I used to post links, they were displayed like yours, in blue type with a live link. Now when I post a link, it's just displayed in black type with no live link? How do you post your links so they are live?

Right. That's the Jewish lobby, not Germans.

But those polluted sensibilities belong in respective countries. People don't get to drag their pettiness around the world with them as they travel.

Personally, I find it absolutely laughable people get triggered of an image of a man born 100 years ago.

I doubt much objection to Hitler shirt in Iran.

I’ll admit, I’m something of a fence-sitter on this one. I don’t believe anyone should be demanding that a shop owner stop selling certain items — that’s ultimately a matter for the authorities to decide, not random individuals.

At the same time, I completely understand why some people might take offence at such items. Offence is subjective, and in many cases, it's entirely understandable.

That said, I also reject the idea that foreigners somehow have no right to voice an opinion. I believe everyone has the right to express their view, provided it's done respectfully and with consideration.

This whole discussion is far more multifaceted than some make it out to be.

Unfortunately, many approach it with a narrow, binary mindset - you’re either for it or against it, full stop.

These kinds of discussions become especially difficult when they’re dominated by the most extreme and often the loudest voices. The nuance gets lost, and we end up debating dumbed down and over simplified absolutes on a lower intellectual level that doesn't really handle the truer issues at hand instead of working through the complexity.

OMG! I never considered that! But I did pass the test on that, I think. But maybe I didn't!!! 😮

Strange, I have never copied and pasted a link from the yandex.com, search engine.

I have no idea why it was a link as you describe.  Lately I have had to copy and do a paste and go into a web browser

Anyway, as I wrote, yandex.com is a search engine.   Copy and paste "cnn lied", with quote marks, into the search engine field and click on the search button.   After using this search engine for the past few weeks, it seems that there are no filters, like google.com, and it actually will bring up lots of returns, for the subject you are searching for.

No, he is correct.  Even when I clicked my link it resulted in a search engine web page with no search results.

I don't know why that happened.

But he did admit that he gets 90% of his news from ... cnn!

I searched for "cnn lies" on Google and found a lot of articles on that. The first one that popped up was from Fox 😄 . I read some of the titles but none of the complete article.

I also did a search for "fox lies," and guess what? I found a few (Ha! Ha!) of them, too.

OMG! I just did a Google search on "Trump lies" and the results took down my PC! I had to reboot! 😉

Did you do the "cnn lies" on yandex?

Looking for fox lies on google.com will get more responses than cnn lies on google.com.  That is just what google does.  That search engine is a left wing biased and democrat supporting website.

I think yandex does not care. ..  You can do the fox lies on yandex too.  I would not know if fax news actually lies or not.

I see more cnn BS than I do fox, only because cnn comes up more often in my searches than fox does.

This T-shirt will bring you in deep troubles🤭

Years ago I was at my daughter’s school concert. I was the only farang and probably English speaker in the audience.

A group of 8-9 year old girls took to the stage to perform a dance.

The lead dancer wore a white T-shirt with the words “<deleted> off you w*nker” emblazoned across the front.

The audience clapped appreciatively and were no doubt oblivious to the message.

This shopkeeper should stand her ground .

Hmm, interesting, that t-shirt must have been popular at the time. I recall walking along a BTS platform when I saw a very respectable-looking middle-aged woman coming from the other side with her teenish daughter at her side wearing a shirt that said "Fu*k off you lousy w*ankers".

Well, I am sorry, but countries are obliged to enforce ICCPR (Article 20(2)) and CERD (Article 4), Thailand alsi signed that treaty. This does not (yet) apply to Putin by the way.

In other words, the lady can be lucky she is still in a position to open her shop doors every morning.

On the other hand, I am convinced the lady has zero education to know about all these things. Maybe Thai officials should teach her a lesson in history and ethical standards.

are to do with war and racist propaganda. The good woman has every right to sell imagery of Putin or (yecchh) Zelensky or even real war criminals like Bush, Biden and Netanyahu.

There's always one!

Rather defeats the object of making a protest really - the shop owner would be quite happy. She would probably label the next batch "Best Sellers"! 🙂

I have no strong feelings either way about these shirts, but I might feel differently if for instance, my family had been murdered by the Nazis, or I had been bombed out of my house in Ukraine.

That's fine, but it's your job to control your feelings. Not to accost Thai ladies who are scraping a living selling T-shirts.

I looked like he was the one being accosted - with a smile on his face too.

And not all of these shop owners are "scraping a living"!

If they buy all the shirts
she will no longer be able to sell them.....
