Who's still thinking of buying a high rise condo after the earthquake?

Featured Replies

I would never buy a condo in Thailand, but it certainly won’t put me off renting one in Pattaya. I would have second thoughts about Bangkok though.

Can you share some links to these videos showing structural damage or "superstructure damage" of the many high rise buildings that have been weakened? (Aside from the six that were declared unsafe by

Who actually, with any reliability and confidence, could assess all Bangkok high rise buildings for structural soundness in two/three days? If you believe this is possible then I've got a bridge in ..

I have two houses on a rai of land.  Who wants a condo?

Probably in Ban Bumfuk, Nakhon Nowhere

Not a hope in hell have you ever noticed when Bangkok gets it’s heavy floods you see loads of vehicles up for sale obviously water damage when I visit BKK I would normally stop above the 15th floor for the view in future I will stay no higher than the 3rd floor as I don’t trust all these engineers who they claim have inspected 100s of buildings  in the last few days with only two being condemned

Now that this earthquake has hit it appears that many of the Bangkok high rise buildings have been structurally compromised and no longer sound.

The superstructure of the buildings has been weakened as evidenced by the many videos showing foundation cracks and structure damage throughout the buildings. As per the usual Thai response to such things, it is more than likely the structures will not be reinforced to original tolerances but the cracks and damage simply smoothed over and hidden. In the event of another earthquake, high wind event or other phenomenon some buildings may not survive and suffer the fate of the Chatuchak Park construction site.

Are you still considering a condo purchase after the earthquake and why, now that the structures are compromised.

Me? No!!

But every amateur is saying they're all perfectly safe and sound and you should sleep like a baby at night. (on the 39th floor.)

I'm not quite sure about the insurance company reaction so have to wait for their decision on covering the costs.

According to Farang condo investors everything is fine, but posts on Pantip tell quite a different story.

One YT'er I follow showed the cracks in his condo.   Lots a quick patch work going on, I would guess, to hide all the cracks in the new offerings. :coffee1:
