Canada  has no tariffs finally the senators have sense.  Tairffs are just a federal tax in disguise the trouble is tariffs are very hard to collect takes a lot more manpower a lot more confusion and you're looking at retaliation from other countries so if Trump had any balls which he doesn't he would have just been better off charging a VAT or a GST on all goods

but only to me this way of calculation base on trades deficit makes no sense?

 

One country could even apply 0% import duty to US products, but not buy much because not interested.

 

But sell a lot because for example US need clothing.

 

You will still be taxed 30/40/50% because of you sell much more than you import.

I guess this boils down to, if you believe in tariffs, reciprocal tariffs, or no tariffs at all. The list provided clearly shows reciprocal tariffs, which can be easily fixed.

As to cherry picking, it was the result of looking on the internet for tariffs put in place by biden.   He even like the tariffs that Trump put in place and kept them.    I just did a quick copy and paste with what I posted.

I bet you won't see any or much easing even when he is gone. Biden doubled down on China and didn't reverse many of the tariffs. So, time will tell. Personally I would say this is here to stay.

A lot of his supporters seem to think these tariffs are a good idea, and a lot of them state the fact that many nations that are being taxed have been charging the US quite a lot in import fees for many years now. This certainly relates to Thailand, no doubt.

 

However one of the reasons why the US has been a major economic force and the largest economy worldwide has been the relatively low tariffs that it charges on Imports, it has created a very dynamic economy and all of that's about to change under the Goombah, who has absolutely no understanding of either globalization nor the inherent ecosystems involved.

 

This will likely cause significant inflation, huge job losses in the US and worldwide, and it will likely cause the US economy to slow down. The entire experiment is likely to turn out to be a disaster, which is my new nickname for the president. Disaster Don.
